On arrival in Beijing, you will be greeted and transferred to your city center hotel.

Day 2 Beijing

Tiananmen Square
Leave the hotel at around 08:30 for Tiananmen Square, the largest public square in the world. Gasp in awe at its formidable size, soak up the history and see major buildings such as the Great Hall of the People and Mao Zedong Memorial.

Forbidden City
Moving to the vast Forbidden City, now open to the public, you will wander around a dramatic complex of Qing and Ming dynasty palaces and see the world’s largest collection of wooden structures. Built during the early 15th-Century, the city was off limits to commoners for 500 years. It is the world’s largest complex of halls and palaces from ancient times, where 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties once ruled China.

Temple of Heaven
In the afternoon you will visit one of the city’s best known symbols, the Temple of Heaven, China’s largest temple and altar complex and an extraordinary example of religious architecture that dates back to the Ming and Qing dynasties.

There will be time for some souvenir shopping at Hongqiao Market and dinner will be spent at Qianmen Quanjude Restaurant, where you will taste China’s top culinary specialty, Beijing Roast Duck, better known as Peking Duck.

Day 3 Beijing

Ming Tombs
You will visit the Ming Tombs and the Sacred Way, also called the Way of Spirit. Built in 1409 at the foothills of the Yanshan Mountains, it contains the tombs of 13 Ming emperors. You will explore some of the largest and best preserved of the burial sites after walking the sacred way, lined with statues of animals and officials.

Great Wall
Move on to discover one of the Great Wall of China’s most majestic sections, northeast of Beijing. Dating back to the 6th-Century, and built as a northern barrier to protect the imperial tombs, the Mutianyu Great Wall offers an alternative Great Wall experience compared to the popular Badaling section.

Day 4 Beijing - Xian

Summer Palace
Spend the morning at the Summer Palace. Used by emperors for 8 centuries, the location was favored by royal families of the Qing Dynasty. The Empress Dowager Cixi had the palace renovated in the 19th-Century, adding the manmade lake you can stroll through today.

Fly to Xi'an
Take an afternoon flight to Xi’an, also known as Chang’an and the most important city in China’s northwest region.

Day 5 Xian

Terracotta Warriors and Horses
Today’s highlight captured the world’s attention when it was discovered by accident in the 1970s and continues to fascinate. The Terra Cotta Warriors and Horse of the First Qin Emperor were buried underground for 2,000 years. Now acclaimed as the world’s 8th wonder, you will visit the mausoleum to see the terracotta army and explore the burial complex.

In the afternoon you will continue your historic tour with a visit to Xi’an’s Great Mosque, one of the 4 most famous mosques of China.

You will also explore the city and its ancient City Wall.

Enjoy a fantastic Tang Dynasty Dinner Show in the evening.

This morning you will visit the Provincial Museum, devoted to the history of the Silk Road and one of the first modern museums in the country.

You will also visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda that was originally built 1,300 years ago to house Buddhist scriptures brought back from India.

Shanghai Museum

Continue to the Jade Buddha Temple, complete with a pale green jade Buddha sitting in his own hall. There is also an elegant reclining jade Buddha downstairs and an exquisite atmosphere in the still functioning Buddhist monastery.

You will continue to Yuyuan Gardens to wander around the intricate design of pavilions, bridges, rocks and carp-filled lakes.
