What You Can Expect

• Day 1 Simatai Great Wall

  • Miyun Reservoir

    After a pick-up from your Beijing hotel or Beijing Airport you will transfer to Miyun Reservoir, a crucial source of Beijing’s water supply and one of the largest reservoirs in Asia.

  • Cycle along the Simatai Great Wall

    You will meet your guide to assemble your bikes and start your ride along the Miyun Reservoir’s spectacular shoreline. You will cycle along the Simatai Great Wall, renowned for its 5 characteristics of, "Steepness, Compactness, Queerness, Wonderfulness, and Comprehensiveness." Located in Gubeikou Town, to the northeast of Miyun, Simatai Great Wall is the only part of the Great Wall of China to retain original features that date from the Ming Dynasty. Beautifully preserved and grand in its entirety, it claims exquisite details, well-preserved watchtowers and extraordinary views.

  • Accommodation

    You will spend the night at a hotel, with The Great Wall outside your room and as the backdrop to your dinner.

• Day 2 Jinshanling Great Wall

  • Breakfast

  • Hike along the Jinshanling Great Wall

    Get up early to the sound of birdsong. After breakfast you will hike along the Jinshanling Great Wall from Simatai. Dating from the Ming Dynasty, the Jinshanling Great Wall lies slightly in ruins, lending it a special beauty. The 12-mile (20 kilometer) stretch, although smaller and narrower than Badaling and Mutianyu, features complicated and well-preserved fortifications. It meanders gently alongside fantastic mountain peaks, and you will have a picnic lunch on the wall and be rewarded every step of the 5-6 hour journey with extraordinary scenery and some of the best photography opportunities of any section of the Great Wall.

• Day 3 Miyun Reservoir

  • Cycle along Miyun Reservoir

    On your final day you will cycle the south side of the Miyun Reservoir along the North China Plain.

  • Lunch

    Have lunch close to the reservoir

  • Back to Beijing

    Return to Beijing in the afternoon by van.
