Not a very good experience for me ...
Est E
Paris, France | Aug 17, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelWell, I didn’t have a very pleasant experience at the place. Decoration of the common room was very beautiful and nice but my room was very dark with no window to outside, only a light wood window facing the indoor of the hotel (so its means all the noise of a hallway which goes with it : people talking, phone rigging, housemaid cleaning, electrical light most of the night, etc, etc). To tell you the truth, some nights I wake up believing that I was actually sleeping IN the hallway…
The room and the bathroom were quite dirty (bugs from there to there) but the bed was comfortable. The staff wasn’t very friendly but I think not because they were actually unfriendly but because they didn’t really speak English.
I tried once one of their breakfast and I never tried it again.
But to be realistic, for the price I paid (238 YUAN/per night so about 35 euros), could I really ask for more ? I don’t think so. If you don’t put the price you shouldn’t complain about services you get. So this is why I put still 3 stars to my review. -
Best hostel of my trip

Jul 10, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelThere were a few tiny bumps here and there but considering how cheap my stay here was, I am more than impressed.
I was initially put in an 8 bed dorm having booked a 6 but it was easily sorted the next day. The staff may seem a bit unfriendly, but I soon learned that although their English is just fine, they're actually quite shy. Give them lots of smiles and joke with them and you'll soon get the same in return. It also doesn't hurt to give some common ground and use what Chinese you know.
The air conditioning in the room was the best I've had in China, the room was clean, the sheets were excellent as was the bed. The hostel itself is beautifully decorated in a very cool, traditional style which I really loved. There is plenty of common room and the courtyard bar is very comfortable and enjoyable.
The staff were very helpful in booking further accommodation and travel. The manager is always around as well and is more than happy to help too. The girl who ran breakfasts was absolutely lovely. The food was pretty reasonable and decent. A nice backup in any case if you don't feel like going out or want simple breakfast.
Only qualms were that smoking restrictions are quite lax. The bar is usually quite smoky and sometimes you know someone is smoking inside the rooms side and I even saw cigarette butts in the toilet and showers. Some of the Chinese guests stay up quite late and can be loud. Perhaps just ensure you're with other foreigners so you don't get out in a room of friends. I also read in lonely planet to avoid the basement rooms but didn't have to worry about that.
The hostel is pretty conveniently located, just ask the staff for bus numbers!
I never write reviews but felt compelled. Value for money in a clean, pleasant and friendly environment. -
Basic youth hostel with good location
williamlye
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia | Jun 12, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayChinese oriental style youth hostel that is in a very good location right smack near the south gate of the city wall where you can go up and cycle. The hostel itself is a little old but bedding was decent and clean. However I could not stand the stench from the fellow bed mate sleeping below as his shoes was wet and smelly! How unfortunate. The wc and shower stalls were separated but in quite filthy condition and there was no rubbish bin near the shower stalls hence it was filled with shampoo packs and bottles and also was not properly cleaned. Could be better. Also no drinking water only hot water was provided.

Terrible
gischiavo
Campinas | Jul 8, 2025This hostel was a terrible experience in Xi'an.
The bedroom was very very dirty (bed sheets, towel and walls) and very small. The bathroom was precarious!!! There wasn't a shower box and the shower water was running in front of toilet.
Smoking was permitted in the Hostel!!! -
Very very modest room and not good bathroom

Pemba, Mozambique | Jul 8, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe stayed here for a couples of nights. The room was very dark with no windows to outside, only windows facing the indoor of the hotel (very weird!). The room was tiny and the bathroom was dirty and flooding every shower. The water from the shower had to run the entire bathroom to reach the sink, even around the toilet.
People could smoke in the hotel's restaurant which made the area very smelly. We didnt have a good experience there and wouldnt recommend for a couple looking for a reasonable place to stay.
