Fantastic by any standard
TheZinger
Ft. Lauderdale, FL | Jun 10, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI have been coming to Tianjin all of my life, and after this stay, I am happy to say that the city has finally matured. A lot of Chinese hotels (particularly Chinese brands), even those in major cities, lack the fit and finish that westerners take for granted (this is not meant to sound elitist, just a statement of observation over the years.) This hotel, both in terms of property condition and service, exceeded my expectations, not just by my experience of Chinese standards, but by any standard.
This hotel is attached to a Marriott Renaissance property (traditional hotel rooms) where my family stayed. I stayed at the Executive Apartments which seemed to be mostly occupied by long term guests. The overall condition of the apartment was very good - some wear on the kitchen area, but that is to be expected since people actually do live there. The cleanliness was unparalleled to any facility I have ever stayed at in China. No weird smell in the bathroom, no dust on the furniture or in the closets and the floors looked spotless. The decor was modern and pretty conservative (the review from 2013 referencing old word down decor is no longer relevant). The beds were extremely comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was brutal (good).
We ordered room service several times during the stay. The food was very decent and arrived quickly.
The facility is enormous and has two restaurants, a spa and an extensive and clean gym on site. We only used the breakfast restaurant and found the service to be extremely attentive (without being at all intrusive) and the food to be very good (the shao bing stuffed with meat is to die for - the cooks remembered I liked it by the end of my stay and would bring it to me). The variety of food for break was also excellent with a good selection of western, Chinese and Korean food options.
My wife and I both used the spa, and I would say that was the only place that could use a little bit of finishing touches. It was just missing some of the finishing touches you would expect in the US and was quite expensive. The spa facility was very nice, not to get me wrong, it was more of a service thing. Not a major issue, just worth mentioning if you want to get a massage.
The service overall was outstanding. I was contacted by the manager to ask what my arrival time was and if I had any special requests. I mentioned that I was travelling with our 18 month old son and would like a quiet room. This was accommodated beyond expectation. I used the lobby bar several times, and while expensive (on par with what you would expect to pay at a hotel bar in the US), had equally excellent service - there were tons of servers always and you almost never waited for anything.
Overall, I have almost nothing negative to say about this beautiful facility on either the Renaissance side or the Executive Apartments side. 5-star facility, 6-star service. Kudo's to the staff and management - based on some earlier reviews, I would say this hotel has put a lot of attention into the finishing touches. -
Best hotel in Tianjin
Eric R
Rochester, NY | Mar 21, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe service, attention to customers, food quality and rooms are the best I have experienced in China! The resident manager is a very strong hotel person who always has time for every person.
I have been in and out of this property for almost three years and I would strongly recommend it to anyone. -
A Pleasant stay
68Barracuda
Morgantown, West Virginia | Sep 20, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessAs s Marriott Gold member, I am obviously a fan of the brand. The service was good. The building is old, but overall it is well maintained. When I arrived the washer and dryer in the suite were not operational, but the issue was quickly resolved. One of the hinges on the glass shower door appeared to be broken. On one occasion when housekeeping cleaned the room, they did not restock the shower gel, mouthwash or bottled water. The fitness room was well equipped and provides, towels, drinks and ear buds for listening to the TV while you exercise. Breakfast was provided and the buffet had many choices, there was an issue with the coffee maker, but it was resolved. One morning I arrived for breakfast, the buffet looked bare and there were no employees present. Several minutes later an employee emerged and started to restock. A very pleasant stay, a little more attention to detail would be helpful. Based on the price, improvements need to be made before I could give it an excellent rating.

Professional operation
Nicholas H
Tianjin, China | May 31, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe courteous, professional staff make this an easy and comfortable home base for business or pleasure. Housekeeping prompt and thorough. A breakfast buffet offers delectable western and Asian foods, much of it fresh-made . . . fresh-squeezed carrot juice, if that's your thing. Or dumplings, or sautéed vegetables, or croissants w/ marmalade and New Zealand butter. There's French toast, eggs Benedict, congee w/ condiments. It's a long and appetizing list. Amenities -- lobby, gym, pool, steam room -- all first rate. This is a polished and smoothly-run operation. Fully up-to-date.

MEA - Apartments from the 1960 with service to match.
reaperman2die4
Toronto, Canada | May 28, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessIt is a real shame.
The apartments are spacious and reasonable well equipped. But the decor is from the 1960 with loads of horizontal wood grain veneer. The lighting that has a mind of it's own and does not make any sense it how it works.
The service is below average, even for a long stay apartment hotel.
The prices are high (marginally lower than the adjoining hotel) for what you get.
Even as a platinum Marriott member there are little or no benefits even down to not being given standard points for ever night of stayed (points are given every three nights) and I had to fight to be allowed into the club lounge, which is always guaranteed as an elite member. Many of my neighbors who are elite members have not been allowed.
We are only allowed one (1) free fresh water container per month in a place where you cannot drink the water for the tap.
General cleaning of the apartment is mediocre. I usually have to go around after to pick up the bits missed.
The managers and supervisor of MEA really do not care about there guests. They really only care if there bosses approve of what they are doing and making them money. Yes! it's a business, but it's a service industry, so customers should come first.
That aside there are a number of staff members who have been really helpful and have a great attitude. I wish to thank them.
