• Great views, friendly staff, but hotel is a little tired!

  Had a huge room on floor 40 overlooking Tianjin which was great. There was a great walk in shower, large bath and large bed - all important things to me! Staff were also very friendly. However, I felt the hotel was a bit tired and there was an unpleasant smell in my room - probably because it had been smoked in (although it was meant to be a non-smoking room). Convenient for the city and business district though.

  We go to The Tangla hotel every summer. Right after the opening, it was a truly amazing experience. As everything Chinese, things started to deteriorate after a few years, but not as much as expected.
  It's obviously not a 5 star hotel according to western standards. The housekeeper of a great hotel in Europe, coming with her white gloves here would have a heart attack. There are stains all over the carpet and on most of the walls. The furniture are a bit run down, the blind between the room and and the bathroom won't work, the faucet is defective, the bathtub doesn't drain properly. You get the picture.
  But those are details by Chinese standards. The bathroom doesn't reek of urine (which is rare) and it is possible to walk on the carpet bare foot. Usually the use of slippers is mandatory (they are provided by hotels).
  Rooms are large and clean, with a nice view of Tianjin (when the pollution is not too severe). We were on the 41th floor and the view at night was astonishing.
  This is a luxury hotel, and we enjoy our stay everytime. The location is especially great at the end of Binjiang road. With small children, we can go to its numerous malls and get back to the hotel when they are tired.
  I read people complaining of service, and it is also my experience. We wanted once to go to a hamburger restaurant and the concierge used our own tablet to look for one. But otherwise I always found staff to be helpful or at least to try their best.

• Deteriorating Hotel which may have glory in the past

  We spent five nights at this hotel in mid July. The hotel was built as a luxury hotel with very spacious rooms and lobby. It is obviously lack of high quality management. Gym temperature was kept at above 28 degree. When asked, staff said it was intentionally kept there because they don't want guests to catch a cold. What?! It is July in Tianjin! Room temperature cannot go below 25 as well. There is obvious a problem in the air conditioner of the hotel. They just pretend they don't know.
  Breakfast looks like a lot of varieties but look closer most of the foods were not freshly prepared or cooked. Bakeries look very suspicious. They definitely don't have a western trained chef who has actually seen a real muffin. Overall it is a domestically owned and managed hotel. Tangla should stop claiming anything like six star. It is a joke.

  I just had the pleasure to stay at Tangla hotel for 3 nights and I must confess it's one of the best business hotels I ever stayed at.
  I 'just' had a standard room, but it's more like 4 or 5 rooms. A living room, a bedroom, a walk-in closet, a toilet and a bath room. There's a fantastic view from the room.
  Wifi was very fast and it seems that there's a separate connection point for each room.
  Breakfast is a mixture of asian and european style and the service was fast and very good.

  I stayed in this hotel for a week. The room was really big and beautiful but it was filthy. The wifi wasn't working in my bedroom. The staff was not trained enough to work in a luxury hotel. The restaurant has good food but it's ridiculously expensive. It was beautiful but I wouldn't go back!
