Excellent hotel with the right location and caring staffs for families with children
Theresa S
Atlanta, Georgia | Jun 30, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI had stayed here for one week with my 11-year-old son and newly adopted daughter. The staffs at the hotel were extremely helpful throughout our stay. The hotel itself is clean, well organised, with awesome buffet breakfast. My boy commented that he would like to work here one day. :-) My new daughter wanted to come back again and again. :-)

Top luxury-hotel!

Bruges, Belgium | Jun 2, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe stayed 1 night, as we had the bullett-train to Beijing the next day.
The hotel is top, most correct, quick check-in and very friendly staff, although not so well English-speaking.
We booked an Executive-King and enjoyed our beautiful, comfortable room very much. The Club-lounge is very comfortable, beautiful design, Good quality and service as well.
Only positvie comments on our first Wanda-hotel, a chain unknown to us before.

Nice hotel, poor staff
TheBeijingDeva
Beijing, China | May 6, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI found this Hotel pretty disappointing to begin with but mellowed a bit as the trip went on and the realities of trying to run a luxury hotel in a 2nd tier city became apparent.
The taxi driver new the hotel immediately using the 'local address' card from tripadvisor which was great. Traffic was awful however (saturday afternoon) and took around 90 minutes to arrive from Taiyuan South Station.
Arrived about 12.00pm and did not get into the room until 13.00pm despite their being only one customer in front. Only 2 people on the front desk with one manning the 'VIP' area and the other for cattle class which I dutifully stood by. People streamed past me checking in and out who I very much doubt were all VIP members. Not once did did the person look 2 ft to her left and acknowledge me struggling with baby and bags and call me forward to be seen too. Confusion with bookings at check in further complicated things and cost about an extra 20 minute wait but these things happen I suppose.
Room was nice and new and a fair size. Bed was comfy and room was generally clean. Mini bar reasonably priced as far as these things go. Good sized bath and powerful shower. Marble floors which look great but treacherous when wet so be careful. View.... Well it is Taiyuan so what do you expect! Rooms were very quiet and I heard no other guests in adjoining rooms during my stay.
Having had an early rush for the train we were starving so headed straight down to the restaurant. Walked towards the entrance and two staff members ran off leaving someone who clearly had no desire to deal with me. Told me in no uncertain terms there was no room and I was basically SOL. No attempt to accommodate, ask us to wait or even advise of alternative dining options. If I was on my own I would have shrugged it off, but with a hungry 2 year old as my lunch date I felt it was pretty unacceptable behaviour. Left the hotel to try and find somewhere else to eat but there is little in the way of dining options in the area (did find an ok looking german place a day later but didn't eat there).
Went back to the hotel and ordered room service which was delivered quite quickly. Pizza and pasta I think which was ok but nothing to write home about.
We're more fortunate to be accepted into the restaurant that evening for the buffet which was quite pricey at about $50-60 though did include some beer and red wine. Food was OK and it was obvious they had gone to a lot of effort to try and produce a good spread, but you have to be realistic with the availability and quality of raw ingredients in these locations, along with the skills of the kitchen staff.
Some of the staff were great and added a bit of personality to the place, though others were a bit strange for want of a better word. Some of the serving stations were not exactly pro active in serving despite there being plenty of staff stood around.
Breakfast was the same with a wide selection though nothing too 'wow' mainly due to the resource reasons above. Nice enough however.
Bar was nice, again service is indifferent with a long wait time to be acknowledged. My Chinese is limited but I can ask for a menu no problem. However this seemed to confuse the heck out of the staff who had a 4 person consultation before bringing me an ashtray. Using the universal menu hand signal (Yes I know they don't understand it over here!) caused even further dismay so in the end I rescued one from the bar. Two nights running I pointed and asked for a Chardonnay yet was served a Merlot. Whatever. By that time I just needed wine no matter what colour it was!
Tried to use the swimming pool but it was very cold, pool area in general looked nice so it was a shame couldnt make any use of it. Changing rooms were bizarrely tiny with barely room for 2 people. Hot baths again looked inviting but were scalding hot. Again staff attitude on the gym desk was strange, much like they would rather you not be there.
Probably the most scathing review I have ever left, but to be fair it wasn't 'that bad'.
Overall the hardware of this hotel is excellent and hopefully they will maintain it to a high standard. The area surrounding the hotel is not great with limited options for dining, shopping or other activities. There seems to be a big mall going up next door and some sort of cultural quarter behind so there may be some life on the horizon.
I actually feel a bit for the hotel management here as I really think they are trying to make the Wanda a top of the range hotel but they are being badly let down by their staff and to a lesser extent, logistically by their location.
Again being realistic, in Shanxi the pool of talent to choose from for western standard customer focused staff is minimal to say the least so I guess its all about managing expectations. -

Taiyuan, China | May 8, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe have travelled through China a bit and stay at 5 star to avoid the unexpected Wanda Vista breakfast good staff friendly room carpets dirty walls all smeared, toilet floor urine stains put your shoes on to go to the loo
Made complaint to friendly Manager who would look into the situation, must be still looking
Entertainment WELL been out for the day had some friends return with us for a quiet cocktail and listen to the music that was in the foyer to be told would have to pay for drinks and extra to listen to the music AMAZING
POOL Think so but were not allowed to look as needed to have our feet cleaned before we could LOOK?
After all the Hotels we stayed in would never recommend Wanda Hotels more suited 2 maybe 3 star tops (suit ?)
