Standard Mercure with weak breakfast
Thomas M
Beijing, China | Aug 28, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessBusiness trip to Suzhou and needed a suitable hotel. Next day I had to go to Kunshan, hence picked a hotel in the middle.
Location is as mentioned before in an industrial zone, not much around there, especially no restaurants for dinner. Either you take a taxi or you end up eating in the hotel. At least the dinner in the 2nd floor (Chinese counting) is not too bad. Prices are reasonable. During my time, hardly any guests, however, the staff was still slow.
Checking was more or less okay, as usual in China leaving the main cities you end up talking to people with limited knowledge of English. Nevertheless I got my room key, one night stay and breakfast included. Went to my room, which in fact was a suite. The suite is very nice, with the elevator you can reach it. Some elevators are having an outside view. Whant you can see is the industrial zone and a bit of the city in the distance.
Room was great, as expected a comfortable bed. TV with the usual channels in China. The working area has no outside window, you need a lamp. Spacious bathroom with a bathtub, however, here it was best possible to see that the hotel has aged a bit, the tub was not perfect anymore. Waterpressure for shower etc was all okay.
Breakfast was a bit disappointing, at least for a western style one. Limited choices and the taste was not too good. Staff was slow.
Checkout without problems, taxi was also organized and worked out fine. -
My stay at Mercure Suzhou

Stockholm, Sweden | Apr 10, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessGood hotel, with large, neat and clean rooms. Rooms are bit noisy and hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Nearest mall is 10 minute drive away. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Restaurant has limited choices for continental food. We Cheked in on a public holiday and it was deadly silence in the hotel. Otherwise fine comfortable stay.

The coldest hotel gym EVER!
Cassius1977
Kolding, Denmark | Mar 28, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessUpon checking in it seemed clear that the English skills of the staff is somewhat limited. Although my Chinese colleague more or less handled the actual check-in process, there was no greeting in English or any exchange of words when handing over my passport or paying the deposit. I’m perfectly fine with being “ignored” like that. I just assume that this might – at best – cause misunderstandings if not actual problems in other cases – e.g. when trying to book a massage.
On a more positive note, we were upgraded to what they called a suite. Obviously, this meant that the room was quite spacious. It also appeared clean and “welcoming”. In regards to WIFI, the connection seemed fairly strong in all areas of the hotel – and the room had enough electricity outlets in case you need to charge a phone, iPad, computer, etc. at the same time. The room was also equipped with an iron and an ironing board. However, since we were upgraded, I’m not sure if this is the standard in all rooms. There’s a nice flat screen TV opposite of the bed. Although I didn’t use it, according to the information in the room, available channels include CNN, BBC, Star Sports, HBO and Cinemax.
In terms of food, I only really tried the breakfast buffet. There’s surely nothing exciting about it – there’s a (natural) overweight of Chinese dishes – but it’s still possible to get cereal and bread. Although the taste is a bit dull and the selection of cold-cuts somewhat limited, it’ll get you through the day.
The hotel gym mainly focuses on (old) cardio equipment. However, the traditional multi-gym and the selection of dumbbells (although somewhat limited) allows for a bit of weight training as well. Word of advice, though: This hotel gym is the coldest hotel gym I’ve ever used! If you don’t want to freeze your butt of, I suggest that you dress warm! There's complimentary water and towels.
Would I stay at this hotel in the future? Maybe… I do, however, consider the freezing gym and lack of English skills of the staff a problem.
