  Usually I just care about the hotel being clean and quiet.
  
  Friends and I came to spend one night in Suzhou just to look at some of the gardens and canal attractions.
  
  We didn't need a luxury hotel as we'd be out late having a few drinks and just need a clean, comfortable room to sleep and shower before returning home.
  
  This hotel was really excellent and met our expectations and more.
  
  Greeted by all staff at the hotel.
  Fast, friendly check in.
  Big comfortable rooms.
  Stored luggage happily.
  Excellent buffet breakfast.
  
  Thank you for being better than we needed.

  Hotel OK if you search only the price. Smell cigarette and clean is at the limit of acceptable.
  Well located near the famous old town street.
  Reception is helpful and nice.
  The breakfast is typically Chinese. There are some western food but not so much.
  We spent only 1 night.

  Built in 514 BC, Suzhou is an ancient city with 2500 years’ history, located in the center of Yangtze Delta. The unique characteristics of the past are still retained in present-day Suzhou. It is renowned for the classic gardens, canals, silks, lakes, operas, legends and museums…
  The Gloria Piazza Hotel is well located, and we enjoyed our business stay.
  We “get” that there are mixed reviews for the Gloria Piazza Hotel; however, we were pleased with the hotel and room quality. Our rooms were suite style and quite luxurious. Perhaps, I should indicate that all hotel bathrooms were U.S. standard. This is not the case at several of the Chinese cultural sites that we visited.
  Our visit was for business, and we had little time in the Gloria Piazza Hotel except for note taking and sleeping. It may be that we were exhausted; however, we experienced excellent quality of sleep.
  We found the morning breakfast buffet to be excellent, and we enjoyed the mix of western and Chinese food. It was during our visit to Suzhou that I learned that the Chinese breakfast and “American” buffet was the only meal that some of delegates could eat. What’s not to enjoy in Chinese restaurants for lunch and dinner? Some folks actually packed “food bars” for the Chinese tour.
  We recommend this property and would return.

  The hotel was in a good location once we had worked out the 'quick' route through Old Town into the centre of Suzhou shopping area.
  The staff were really helpful. It is very popular with Chinese people, and the two shops seem very good value for money.
  We found that the hotel is a little tired and could do with updating, our biggest issue was with the cold. Despite mentioning this to reception staff, the issue was not addressed fully. We had to request extra blankets, and buy fleece pj's to keep warm. Our aircon did not 'heat' the room at all, so it felt cold and damp.
  The room was very spacious, the bed comfortable and linen good quality. Overall I would stay again, due to the location and the staff, but take thermals!

  I agree with what others have said. I have lived in China for 11 years now and have traveled to many cities and stayed in many hotels of higher and lower quality, standard, name, you name it, but this is one of the worst. The room was large enough, but furnishings, decoration, equipment were all very outdated. Very standard Chinese style hotel. Bed was harder than the street outside. The air conditioner was not controlled by the individual thermostat in the room, but only allowed you to get it as cool as the hotel had the main thermostat set at. The room / halls stunk of old smoke, as did the bedding and pillows. I am horribly allergic to cigarette smoke, and I was almost sick the next morning from it. The carpets were nasty, stained, watermarked, cigarette burnt, as were the bedside tables. Wifi was fine. Lighting was atrocious. Unless this place goes through a complete and total refurbishment, I would never even think about sleeping here again, if it's my choice. I'd go to the cheaper and more comfortable places just up the street.
