Not a 5 star hotel!
Janice G
Melbourne, Australia | Sep 23, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyMy son was getting married in this hotel so my daughter-in-law suggested we stay here. It is rated as a 5 star hotel and is pretty new, however we had quite a disappointing stay overall. The good things are that the hotel is located in a nice area, there are a number of malls one street away with nice clean food, also the usual things a Westerner looks for such as Starbucks, Maccas and KFC. We had booked two twin beds, but on arrival had only one queen sized bed. As a 5 star hotel, one would expect that the staff have good English language skills, we quickly discovered that no one really speaks English - even if they nod etc, they are not getting what you are saying. This resulted in us asking where we could draw money and the reception staff just saying they don't know. After wandering around fruitlessly to draw cash, we discovered an ATM on the other side of reception and were able to draw cash with no issues. On arrival at the hotel only one gown in the cupboard, complained about this and got two for one day and then just one - gave up complaining. Also tea cups were dirty, carpets are stained and dirty, mould in the shower and no shower cap - just an empty box. We were across from the cleaners room so at 11pm one night I had to complain about the noise as it sounded like a party next door. The worst bit is the wifi - it is almost impossible to get online - when you do, you get kicked off almost immediately and have to go through the process of logging into your wifi, selecting the option etc, etc and then you have 5 secs of wifi before being kicked off again. When we spoke to reception about this, they denied the problem and suggested we use an ethernet cable - which also didn't work. When my son spoke to them in Chinese on my behalf, we finally got to the answer, the staff told him there is nothing they can do, the wifi is just really bad (described in 4 letter words!). We had two really awful experiences with the concierge and one really good one - depends on who was on duty. The first experience was to try to get a map - nothing in English so really difficult to work out where you are and how to get back to the hotel, the concierge could speak no English at all. Our second experience was to order a taxi through him - when we asked him how much it would cost, he just had no clue what we were saying. The third experience was to book a hotel car through a different concierge who could speak fluent English and was very helpful, this was arranged smoothly and he was a pleasure to deal with. So it seems that if you are a Westerner, you get treated really badly and the communication issues make the stay very unpleasant, however when my son and daughter-in-law intervened on our behalf, they received a different level of service. I wouldn't stay here again, the hotel is disorganised, the cleaning haphazard, wifi dreadful. We didn't eat in the restaurants, but the wedding was held on Level 7, food for the wedding was pretty average, also noticed that the tablecloths etc had holes in them. After the wedding, my daughter-in-law's parents had booked a private room for lunch on Level 6 - the lunch was pretty good, but I have no idea which restaurant in the hotel provided it. Also, the hotel is close to the subway, however you will find it difficult to find this out due to the limited language skills in English. I'd say this is an average 3 star hotel, definitely not 5 star. We had drinks at the bar in the lobby which was pretty nice.

Sep 12, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessStay here for 10 days. Found it to be quiet nice. Gym was good buffet breakfast was good room was big and TV and Nick nacks ok. Need the front of house to improve there English there understanding is basic but hard work to explain anything out of the ordinary. Service in hotel lobby was good but pricey coffee. All in all good for money spent.

One of the Best in Shenyang

Greenville, South Carolina | Jul 22, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyVery nice Chinese 5 Star Hotel. Live Classical Piano music in the entry hall 6 nights a week. The "Best" Private Steak House Resturant in Shenyang.. Make a reservation at the front desk Ask for Chef Frank... Rooms are very nice... "Latitude 41 Bar" has nightly live entertainment... The Hotel staff are very helpful... The Swimming pool and fitness center are world class.. The Hotel located just off the main business street of Shenyang.. Great Shopping/Local Restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the Hotel... We are long term Guests here. We moved here from another 5 star Hotel and have been pleased with the food in all three restaurants and hotel services. They have several large halls for meetings. The two negatives are common to all Chinese Owned Hotels... Smoking is allowed and the air conditioning is often not cool enough for us in the night.. Other than these two items.. The Metro Park New Yoker is a great Hotel. A good value and a safe; convenient area to stay when in Shenyang; Liaoning P.R. of China.
