  On a group tour before heading to DPRK, was given a smoking room on the 10/F therefore went down to the reception asking for a non-smoking room, the girl (reckon she's a trainee as she doesn't know which floor is a smoking / non-smoking floor), she had a strict face of saying no sorry hotel is full and I had to swap rooms with another group mate, I actually looked online and there were still rooms specified as non-smoking room available but she wouldn't allow changing it, despite being a golden circle member nothing could be done.
  Breakfast was the only highlight of the stay. Great selection from Asian, eastern even there are ice cream selections.

  I've been staying at this hotel for several weeks on business and have been very happy with the standards and attention to detail throughout the hotel. Small touches exemplify the great service - a cake delivered to the room on my birthday, mooncakes distributed with a card on the Mid Autumn Festival holiday, and special treatment when my children were visiting. Ms. Tia Liu from Guest Relations should especially be mentioned for her helpfulness and prompt attention to any request.
  Great breakfast served in the morning, though the long layout of the Cafe Liao means service might be challenged at times. Horizon Club is definitely worth the extra money, quality snacks and coffee provided through the day, and an enjoyable evening cocktail period. Great view as others have mentioned.
  Shinsen (Japanese) restaurant on 30th floor has (surprisingly rather affordable) great food but of all areas of the hotel, here the English capability is a challenge.
  Gym, pool, sauna facilities are high standard and very clean.
  If possible ask to have a room overlooking the park. Quite nice.

  In town to visit with wife's family, and tried a newer hotel as usually stayed at Traders ( now Hotel Jen ) in the centre. Shangri-La impresses on arrival with a nice lobby, but nobody helping with luggage (always done at Traders ). Room was nice and had a good city/park view.
  Just ate breakfast here and it was a wide range of options, though getting a coffee was a bit hit and miss. Staff were helpful.
  Afternoon tea in Lobby was poor with having to chase up orders placed earlier.
  Nice pool and Gym with we used regularly.
  Just need to polish up in a few areas, that should be required as a true 5 star option.

  It is really worth to spend s few more bucks s day for access to the horizon club level. Great view from there and relaxation . The lobby bar offers space for smokers , live music and a variety of food and wines . A Japanese restaurant at the executive level (30th floor ) available after reservation. Nice place.

  ...in more than 20-years of business and private travel this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. I lived here in a 1-bedroom apartment for 1-year from 03/14-02/15.
  I still miss the bed now, and have never had such a good night's sleep since.
  The hotel and decor is of course as you expect at Shangri La, the big difference is the staff. Melinde our guest manager always on hand if there were issues, Adam in the restaurant, always responded positively to any issues or ideas. Great service in the restaurant from Chris and Helen. And not forgetting Ken in the lobby area. You all made me feel like this was home. And I still miss it !!
