Chinese style resort

Sep 24, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getaway20 minutes drive from shaoxing train station. Very relax, quiet and peaceful place to stay, if you don't mind to stay in an old building. Staffs were so helpful n nice. Should try the restaurant, they serve very good local dishes, as recommended by our local friend.

Great potential

Singapore, Singapore | Sep 7, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesTastefully refurbished rooms and nice concept - much better than the usual reconstructed Chinese "old street". Due to the location it feels like a self-contained boutique resort, and has great potential to be a relaxing getaway from the nearby cities of Hangzhou and Shanghai. However it falls short in not offering much in the way of activities, or even comfortable areas to relax and while away the time.
Once the free ten minute boat ride is over and you've done a few laps of the place on foot, there's not a whole lot to keep you occupied. The rooms have old fashioned Chinese chairs (which look nice but aren’t particularly comfortable), and even the restaurant closes at 8pm. To make it worth the journey there, it would be great if the hotel could build on the self-contained aspect and make it a more interesting place to spend a few days relaxing, or even a viable place for a company getaway/team building. E.g. offer a spa, a bar...Maybe a free shuttle service to the nearby scenic area (which is a bit of a walk away), cooking classes, pool table...pretty much anything in fact.
Breakfast is excellent (though very local, so don’t expect a western breakfast), and the noodle shop and restaurant also serve very nice food. Not too oily and not much – if any – MSG. Alcohol offerings are quite slim though, so might be an idea to BYO if you want wine or non-local beer. -
Unique Experience

Shanghai, China | May 24, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyMy parents love this place so much! It was an unique experience for me as well. Traditional Shaoxing water village, memory of those old days while I was little at grandpa's home. Housekeeping service needs improve, if there is a convenience shop inside water village would be even nicer. You can walk, drink tea, chatting with friends or family without even leave the hotel!

Unique hotel with a lot to improve
ChristinaJXH
Shanghai | Sep 1, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe hotel itself is a quiet water town, which is a big plus. We enjoyed the strolls in the hotel. However, it did not turn out to be a pleasant experient due to the following:
1. The superior room we had was extremely dark. We had all lights on during the day, but it did not help much. There was a living room downstairs, and the upstairs bedroom and bathroom were tiny. Read from the reviews that many of the bathrooms were quite spacious, but the one we had was the smallest we had ever seen! There was no bathtub, and the shower room was just big enough for one person.
2. Ventilation was poorly designed: had the unpleasant smell throughout our stay.
3. My husband and I love Chinese deco, but the future in the room did not really appeal to us. They were as dark as black and made us feel even more depressed in the dark room.
4. Had quite a few hiccups in house-keeping: the fridge was locked, so we had to call someone to open it; the speed dial button in the downstairs living room did not work at all, and we used mobile phone to call house keeping; there was only one remote controller despite the fact that there were two TV sets in the room (we were expected take the remote controller upstairs to turn on the other TV according to the staff); CNN did not work although it was on the TV programme list; wifi was not stable; we only had a half roll of toilet paper when we checked in...
There were of course good aspects: breakfast was good, and staff at breakfast were highlight of the hotel. Boys at concierge were all very helpful. -
Very unique hotel in a traditional water village

Shanghai | Jul 10, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI made the reservation on Kaiyuan's App and got really good rate during the Labor Day holiday. Kaiyuan Group turned an entire old traditional Chinese water village into a 5-star hotel with 99 rooms. Rooms are very spacious though it's a bit dark inside. There's a nice little restaurant in the hotel where you can try local dishes. Anyway, this is one of the most unique hotels of such kind I've stayed in China.
