El mejor hotel de Shantou

Guecho | Nov 1, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessWe arrived to the hotel at midnight and check-in was fast. We could also have something to eat at the lobby bar. I had a great quality burger.
The double room was very big an clean. The bathroom was also incredible!!!!. The need and pillows we comfortable.
The hotel is very quite so it's easy to sleep.
Breakfast area was quite crowdy and not very comfortable for a calm breakfast. Food options are good.
Service is nice. -
Great rooms, and probably the best hotel in town!

Los Angeles, California | Oct 31, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessOne of, if not the only, western hotel in this city. As a result it draws many western guests and therefore caters to our western preferences in a very good way. Check in was easy and used the modern tablet to display your reservation, rate, and additional details. Staff were comfortable communicating in English. Rooms were modern, and very well constructed and fitted in my opinion. Mine had a bizarre shower in a separate glass room which also contained the bathtub. Everything in here got wet and shared the same floor which also served as a drain! Pretty odd and not practical at all...but interesting.
Biggest draw and drawback to the restaurant was the staff. Alvaro is a capable and conscientious manager from Spain with great multi-national experience and tremendous (and essential) patience with his staff. Waited far too long to be served and some of my order was forgotten, but Alvaro recognized the problem and dealt with it commendably in my opinion. He has his hands full with servers who don't seem to have much experience or desire to impress. I got the impression that customer service was not a high priority among many, which could be for any number of reasons...but not so for Alvaro. I do think it runs as well as it does because of his presence, and that it would be a different story without him. The lunch and dinner buffets were very well stocked with a great variety of food (sushi, Asian, western etc..)
When I return to this city I will definitely return to see how things are going. Over time I think it will get better and better. -
Brand new, thus the best.

Oct 8, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyFor a property this size and of this expense, it is still very new (not yet two years old) and, thus, one could expect it to be the best. For this city, it is. The lobby is elegant and the rooms are spacious and very well-appointed. In fact, the room, especially the bath, approached being one of the more luxurious I have seen in South Asia.
Request an upper floor facing the park and, beyond, the harbor for the best views.
I do not speak any Chinese so communication with staff was on occasion a tad difficult, but any problems were insignificant. It is China , so internet access was spotty, at best.
There are many areas of restaurants, all kinds of shopping, markets, etc., within easy walking distances and a new (as of summer 2015) large indoor shopping mall being constructed immediately adjacent to the hotel. -
The best in town but ...

Hong Kong, China | Sep 16, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessIt's a SPG hotel and pretty much expected something in higher standard, especially in city like Shantou. The reception put me in a very quiet room which was requested. However, only last till 7am every day as the park nearby has some kind of dancing exercise for the locals and the music is just too loud even with sealed windows.
The room is spacious and clean (maybe it's still new). Love the hot strong shower. However, the switches for lightings seem a bit confused. 6 panels next to bedside but just can't figure out which controls which!
The food is ok at the lobby level restaurant. Lots of varieties (seafood, western and local). It seems quite full even for a weekday evening. There is a award winning Chinese restaurant on the 3rd floor.
The rest of the facilities such as gym and swimming pool are nice and modern. HOWEVER, the spa is very $$$ (US$100 for 45 mins) and the massage is terrible by far the worst in town. I asked for a stronger back massage and the lady was just feathering with the massage oil. She insisted it's the best she could do and it's acceptable for most people. Highly not recommended. There is a nice one nearby (15mins walk) called Tian Ran (Natural) Spa.
Overall, it is good but can be better. If I have to choose one in Shantou, this is the best you can get ! -

New York City, New York | Aug 27, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessStayed at Sheraton Shantou for 7 days just now. The hotel definitely looks the best in Shantou. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.
Those things that need some care:
- Keep all the tacky decor/promotional items away from the lobby. They cheapen the hotel.
- Details, details, details: Check all the bathrooms to ensure that the sconces are not missing crystals, especially in the front.
- Fix the bathroom door so it will actually close.
- The 2nd floor restaurant food is overall decent. We ate multiple times there. Please either dim the awful yellow/green lighting or change them so people won't look so scary while dinning. (PS. Don't take your date there. The lighting definitely won't add points in your favor! Did I already mention the AWFUL AWFUL lighting there?!?!)
- Some of the Chef Recommended items are just blah! Don't order the rice noodle soup with beef meat balls. It's just awful! (Of course, one would ask why I would order such a thing in a hotel, when it's readily available on the street... well, it was really really hot out there and I just didn't feel like going out.)
- Fix all broken door bell and service lights.
The good things about Shantou Sheraton:
- The lobby staff is overall attentive and pleasant; eager to help. Philo Li, the porter, was specially helpful in providing local restaurants recommendations and explaining points of interest.
- The restaurant staff is courteous and will attend to your needs.
After thoughts:
- Shantou is a city with lots potential. Its old city center is quite charming. It showed that Shantou was once a very wealthy city. Hopefully the city government will restore those buildings promptly, instead of just letting them decay.
- This is my first time staying at a Sheraton, so I was pleasantly surprised by its quality.
- The overall attentive, not pushy, well-mannered staff with positive attitude is A+++.
- With the Marriott opening soon, the Sheraton will have some competition for the best hotel in Shantou.
