Very nice, inexpensive hotel
Frank52582
New Haven, Connecticut | Jun 7, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed there for five nights during a conference in a nearby university. The rooms are a bit small, but good enough for a single person who is busy in the daytime and only come back to the hotel to sleep at night. The price is very reasonable, and the staff are helpful; their English is a bit limited though.
Generally I am quite happy with my staying. -
mediocre?

Brussels, Belgium | May 28, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe maintenance budget of the hotel could need an increase. The flooring in the room was in a poor shape and the walls could need another layer of paint. However the bed was surprising comfortable, albeit a bit hard, and I slept very well. The shower is one of the annoying ones that have been designed for people of medium height only, so standing at my full length the head and shoulders were still dry. Why do they make the shower hose short? It can't possible cost much to get it 20 cm longer - not the first time this happens to me (and I consider my 186 cm as average) across the world.
There is wifi in the lobby (free) and supposedly a wired internet connection in the room although I never managed to get it to work. A word of warning - DO NOT USE THE RUNNING MACHINE/TREADMILL - it is lethal as the carpet is not adhering properly to the actual belt so unless you grab hold of the machine itself you'll fall off or break your foot.
The staff is friendly but speaks no English. The breakfast buffet is very chinese but there is a Starbucks only 5 min. away by foot.
The location of the hotel is 15 min by taxi from Nanjing Road or 20-30 min by metro. Not close, nor is the surrounding neighborhood very interesting.
It goes without saying the price of the room is quite reasonable for what you get. If you are on a shoe-string budget (I paid €30/night) this is a quiet and safe place. -
An unpretentious business hotel

New York New York | Mar 8, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessAn unpretentious business hotel with few frills, but a very reasonable price for Shanghai. I would stay here again. My humble room (522) was clean and comfortable with a standup shower - no bathtub. Bed was stiff with hardwood floors which is typical for a Chinese business hotel. Adequate Chinese internet connection but no wireless internet. Walking distance (10 minutes) to two different Starbucks and a City Super, i.e.: Western grocery store. Hotel Carolina did not accept AmEx but Visa was OK. Front desk people spoke some English and bellman was very helpful in explaining (via charades) my room heater.

Kemerovo, Russia | Jan 16, 2026 | Trip type: CouplesA really good place to stay. Calm and silent. You can relax from city noise streets. Strongly advice for couples. You'll like it. Metro station isn't far from the hotel. Excellent location.

Average hotel in good location,

Toronto, Canada | Jun 11, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessHotel goes by the name of Junius Boutique Hotel.
Charges like a boutique but in reality is one of the remnants of the old Party hotels.
To be fair, the room was larger than what you find in Shanghai area.
a. The barely speak English
b. They do not have any western breakfast
c. No working office equipment.
I knew I was in trouble the second I looked in the elevator, dirty carpets and missing bulbs.
The TV remote was stuck on the one channel and would not budge. The earlier name is still visible all over the hotel & they could not print the invoice...
I guess the Boutique added to their name is just a teaser for tourists.
Generally mediocre and you should stay only if must.
I am going to find myself another hotel in Shanghai.
