• Great hotel for visiting the Exhibition Centre

  I chose this hotel based on its convenient location to the exhibition Centre and also because it was relatively new. The rooms were comfortable and offered everything one could need for a business stay (though I did miss having a bath). As is usual in China there seemed to be a slight odour of smoke in my non- smoking room but I have come to expect this! The staff were friendly and helpful and had good English. I would recommend staying on The Club Floor.

• Good Hardware But....

  The hotel is located west of Hongqiao Airport (about 30 min cab ride). There isn't much around it. The hardware in this location is top notch but software isn't so much. The management doesn't care so much, in my opinion. Not the owners because they operate several restaurants on first and second floors, independent of hotel staff and these restaurants are very good both in food and especially in service. Good place to stay if the location is convenient to you.

  I stayed here for 3 nights on a business trip and enjoyed my stay. My room looked very new and the bed was very comfortable. I slept really well as the room was very quiet. The hotel seemed far from the centre of Shanghai but this did not impact on me as I needed to be in the area that the hotel id located in. The staff was friendly and check-in/out was quick. The lobby and restaurant areas were very cold though. Also, dinner and breakfast seemed very chaotic at times despite the fact that it wasn't very busy. At breakfast, there was only one coffee machine, which resulted in long queues. This could be easily remedied by adding extra machines. That said, I would stay at this property again should I need to go back to that area of Shanghai.

  hotel had a good green atmosphere, having a huge dinner area, one italian restaurant in premises, family mart ..big rooms, Japanese resturants..so have lot of food choices. near by to new expo center.

  Chinese hotels typically get two things wrong - their 'hardware' and their 'software'.
  The hardware is the physical building. This is what lets down the Holiday Inn Shanghai West. Instead of having seats in the foyer, so the 10 or so guests can wait comfortably for their ride, there is enormous art works. In the rooms, the electrical switches are mixed up, so that the left switch turns on the right light, and vice versa. The blinds in the bathroom also don't work, meaning you are on display to any other guests sharing the room. But this is typical for a Chinese hotel. We are used to it.
  What I wasn't used to was the surprisingly friendly and helpful service - the software. The leadership of this hotel is clearly showing through to the upbeat attitude of staff throughout the building. For this reason, I can definitely recommend this hotel, but just as long as you have a meeting in Qingpu. If you plan to head to the CBD, forget it. It's a 1 to 1.5 hour drive - depending on traffic.
