  This is a nice hotel in the French concession area. The rooms are a bit small but they are well maintained. The location is close to a number of bars/restaurants, so the nightlife around the hotel is lively. I saw a lot of reviews here complain about smoking, but we did not have this experience. We had a room on the 8th floor, which was a non-smoking floor, and there was no smoke in our room. We also did not experience any outside noise during sleeping hours. The lobby is comfortable although not luxurious. The WiFi was better than average.
  The service was also fine.
  The only two negatives are that the overall state of the hotel is a bit dated, and the breakfast buffet in the morning is somewhat mediocre.

  The room looks gloomy but clean. The smell of cigarettes smoke is everywhere. Breakfast is so so.. but the staff are nice and helpful. Higher rooms are better. Do not be surprise if you hear noise from the other rooms, this explains poor constructions of the building.

• Overpriced hotel with great potential

  I stayed here for 2 nights for business, it's directly across from a beautiful park and close to restaurants and night life. Good location with a great neighborhood, close to the subway. Breakfast was good, not great but still, good. The staff was friendly and courteous. Why not a 5? I have two complaints. The rooms are worn out, this may have been five star at one time, but it's now a, 3.5, being extremely generous and kind, 3.75 max. First point take was for the room. There was an ashtray with matches next to the no smoking sign. The fixtures are 1980s-1990s, and worn, but for a small investment the hotel could be nice again. 3.75 is not a bad thing, but for an extra couple of bucks stay you can stay at a better place. Second complaint, the rooms are small and stuffy, and you have to open the windows to breathe. I was told there is air conditioning when I booked this through Ctrip. There is, when management chooses to turn it on. I called the front desk to ask about it, and was told that it was being serviced and only works on certain floors, and mine was not one of them (and no other rooms are available). I wrote an email to Ctrip, 45 minutes later, the assistant manager called and said they'll have the a/c working within 20 minutes. Hmm...It did work, I went to dinner, and came back to find that it had been turned off again. My choices, leave the windows open and not sleep from noise or close them and try to sleep in the heat. Great. Next morning, I contacted the hotel and then Ctrip again, and a different assistant manager and after a discussion assured me that it will be turned on, and will be on all night. It was on, until evening, and then turned off again at night. This is supposed to be the hotel's environmental position, but that only makes sense when it's not hot. I paid 650RMB each night for a small, stuffy, hot, outdated room with peeling wallpaper. Keep this place in mind if you are not there in warmer weather and when you can find a super discount, but for what I paid, or even 100RMB less, go someplace else. Like, next door for 200RMB more. I take away another .5 points for not keeping their word on assuring the a/c would remain on overnight, and give them the benefit of the doubt that in other seasons it is a better place to stay. One other thing worth noting, the wi-fi is not fast, not in the least.

  Was there for the first and only time so far and I have nothing more to say that this hotel was excellent, clean, good service and of course good food.
  We stayed therefor a week, my wife and I, and we left very happy.
  Nice, clean good food service.
  Sorry I forgot to mention that was there in August 2012.

  Very good location. Clean and comfortable but needs a little TLC. Would stay again though. The breakfast is traditional Chinese. Enjoyed watching people do tai chi and ballroom dancing in the parks across the street. All in all a good place to stay.
