Peaceful location but close enough to Shanghai
Joe K
Adelaide, Australia | Dec 15, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesHad a wonderful time at sun island. The staff were very friendly and we got a lot of assistance from the customer service group. The resort is a fair way from Shanghai but it's locationhas a nice rural feel and you are still able to visit a number of quaint river towns. The transport to Shanghai via the public buses was both fun and easy to use and very economical...gives you a feel for the people. The surroundings of the resort very pleasant and nice for walks. For young people it would be to far from Shanghai and offers little night life. Food provided from the organic restaurant and the chineses restaurant was excellent. However, due to us getting their in early December acces to these restaurants and the Italian restaurant was limited. On site activities such as laughter yoga provided great enjoyment to my wife and the facilitator was fantastic. Golf course very pretty. More than happy with our stay. Helen and Joe from Australia

Nice Hotel but hard Bed
gymnastik
Erlangen, Germany | Nov 23, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe hotel (except the room) is very nice and the hotel staff are friendly. There is a very nice golf course.
Everything is good apart from the bed which is very hard and uncomfortable. Hence, we did not sleep well during our 1-week stay.
Another thing I did not like was the room service: On the last day before we left the hotel, I had broken a glass tumble and informed the room service. The room service demanded me to pay 20 RMB for the broken tumbler. We have paid the expensive rate for this hotel which is similarly priced to a 4-5 star international hotel. This demand in comparison does seem to be up to the standard of a international hotel. -
Still good second time round
ShanghaiGourmet
shanghai | Aug 5, 2025We are back again for a week this summer. The villa is nicely decorated, better than last time. Shuttle bus super convenient. Only complaint is the slides at the wave pool are closed the whole week we will be here. Apparently closed since early July and looks like nothing is being done to repair it.

Shanghai | Jun 1, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI had no expectation when going to Sun Island. Sun Island was my D plan and I had never heard about it after the usual family resorts of such (Sheshan Meridien and Sofitel). I prepared myself for the worst but at least my friend owns the Italian restaurant there so worst case I would have spent the weekend enjoying the food. It is actually him whom recommended me Sun Island. Now I regret that I didn't stay one more day. Staff was unexpectedly very friendly and professional. The environment is clean and shows that it is well managed; it is a perfect resort for some staycation away from the centre, for families and friends that need a break from the busy Shanghai.

Beautiful but expensive
ffrige
shanghai | Apr 27, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe hotel is located on a green island, about 45 minutes drive away from Shanghai. It is a great getaway for a weekend, either with family or friends. They have plenty of fun activities to fill up a day or two, but it will also cost you a lot of money. Excellent breakfast buffet included. The rooms are a bit small but clean. The italian restaurant is also very good but make sure to get there early: they take the last order at 7:15pm. Didn't try the pool but it looked very nice. The go-karts are fun but overpriced. They also have horse riding, ping-pong, billiards, bikes to rent and a small playground. I didn't like that they use petrol-powered shuttle buses. On such a green island they should adopt electric vehicles.
