Like going home
RichFT
Guntersville, Alabama | Jun 17, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThis was not my first time here at the Shahai hotel. We keep coming back. The rooms are nice. The people are friendly. The rates are good. It is only 20 min taxi ride to PuDong airport. It's very convenient for my business.

Fine for an overnight
gigglybebe
London, UK | Jan 1, 2026 | Trip type: CouplesWe missed our flights from Shanghai to vietnam and needed a play to stay near the airport in order to catch the flight the following day. We had seen this hotel on Expedia, booking.com etc and the hotel looked ok from the photos.
Just some notes about the hotel:
Pros:
The hotel is clean and we were upgraded to the VIP suite which was very large.
Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful and speak very good English.
Japanese restaurant at the top of the hotel is fantastic! Fairly cheap and the food is very good.
Cons:
It is NOT in near the centre of Shanghai and the attractions- we knew this when we booked the hotel. It is also 20mins drive from the airport however the hotel provide a free shuttle bus which for us was a private driver however some other travellers have reported a minibus.
The hotel is very dated, our suite was pristine (but dated) we just think no-one had stayed in it much.
Wew didn't have the breakfast so we can't comment. We paid ~£50 and were upgraded to the suite which was fine for us as we just needed a place to stay before flying out the next day. Some others travellers report a lot of Chinese guests, yes this seemed to be true when we stayed but this didn't bother us as we were in china! There are nicer hotels nearer to the airport such as the ramada but you will pay more for them. For us this hotel was clean with pleasant staff at a reasonable rate. -

Overcharged my credit card
BrudaT
Kiwi | Oct 18, 2025Agreement of payment as organised by CTRIP was $551CNY. Upon check in on 14th Oct 2015 the Hotel staff reveived my deposit of $800CNY. Upon check out the following day I paid what was agreed upon which was $551CNY. I confirmed with bank that there was two transaction. However when checked bank statement, the $551 CNY was no longer there and the payment which was my deposit of $800CNY was taken as payment for my one nights stay. This is theft or the staff are pocketing the money! So this meeds to be Investigate immediately!
