  Great little place, with gorgeous little rooms. This place is all dark wood and charm!. Not many amenities, but it's not that type of hotel. It definitely has that B&B feel to it. They don't speak English but they are helpful and friendly. Perfect location.

• Nice rooms, very B&B;, no English

  This is a solid B&B. It's quite bare bones, and no one speaks English. It's a great location in terms of neighborhood, but a little far from the subways. Here are the specs:
  
  Location: southern French Concession. Nice neighborhood, walking distance from Yongkang Road, which has a lot of restaurants, coffee shops and bars frequented by young Shanghainese and expats.
  
  Rooms: Spacious, nice bathrooms, a nice mix of traditional and modern design. The bathroom was a little shoddy (water in the shower doesn't drain properly) and it is right on top of a restaurant, which can get rowdy at night.
  
  Food: You can choose to have breakfast downstairs, but don't expect any variety. It's served at 8 am.
  
  Overall, this is a clean, comfortable, but very basic hotel. It's not for the luxury or business traveler, but more for someone who wants to experience local fare. The staff does not speak any English, so I tried my best at my incredibly basic Mandarin. Let's say there was a lot of gesticulating!

  Reception, excepted the albeit reception desk young girl, no english speaking, but it was ok we could communicate.
  Spacious and luminous room view on their restaurant patio recovered liked a green house.
  Spacious bed!
  The bathroom needs some serious renovation for the plumbing, they should choose a pro for the work. water linkings ruined the wall etc...
  the toilet due to the old structure of the building flushes the old way, the wasted paper have to be thrown to a basket (dont really cared).
  No breakfasts available due to the renovation of their restaurant, should we have a refund for that? anyway we wanted to have a typical Chinese breakfast in hood.
  Anyway it was cozy, people pleasant, I would go back if I have an opportunity.
  Thanks anyway for staying there and enjoyed the 1930tie Shanghai and its typical everyday life scenes in the neighbour.

• feel at home in French concessions

  Great location, in the middle of the French locations.
  Plenty of smal shops, restaurants and pubs at walking distance.
  After 10 years travelling in China, I discovered this very small hotel only recently and now stays there each time I can.
  Old colonial house renovated with the latest tech and confort , beautifuly decorated with vintage furnitures.
  I love it and it's really cost competitive for the neibourhood.
  One improvement point, for some starving customers: the breakfast is very minimalist (1 coffee or tea + 1 egg & toast), but never an issue for me: I am not hungry before 7:00 am ;-)
  And for communication, the lady running the place is very nice , but speaks very little english. Good opportunity for the travellers to practice their "Mandarin".
  I trully recommend this place for travellers looking for a different experience far away from the big hotels.
