• Nice new hotel, with a few minor issues

  The hotel is near the Hongqiao airport. Very near. You can pretty much count the passengers in the aircraft on final approach as they come over your head. Having said that the rooms are large and (reasonably) well soundproofed - although there is a limit to how much you can soundproof against an A330.
  The wifi is free, and isn't too bad. Apart from the inability to get Google, Facebook and Twitter, which is beyond the hotel's ability to fix!
  Food isn't fantastic, but there are plenty of options in the shopping centre across the road. The gym and pool were reported to be good.

  This hotel is within 10 minutes ride to Hongqiao terminals, both train and air. The hotel provide shuttle to the terminals for a fee, but you can get taxi for similar if not lower price.
  It's not an ideal base to explore the city as the nearest subway stations require 20min+ walk. The hotel is on a small town in the suburban of Shanghai. There's a shopping center next door where all the local people would go to. Lots of dining options in the shopping center as well. Everything is convenient and walkable.
  The room is sizable with modern decor and clean bathroom. Due to being on the flight path, you can clearly hear the plane engine noises. Luckily after 10PM, there're limited flights. However, do expect late arrival guests hauling luggage in the hallway.

  I was flying in to Hongqiao at midnight and needed a bed before flying off again next morning, and this provided everything an airport hotel should provide - close to the terminal, rapid if unexciting room service, a comfortable bed and a reliable wake-up call.

  It's conveniently located close to the high speed train station and Hongqiao airport to catch an early train or flight. It's clean and newly renovated with comfortable bed, good wifi connection. Breakfast is okay but crowded (where else isn't in China?).

  I stayed at the Holiday Inn Hongqiao for 12 nights with my partner. He had to go and work all day which left me pretty much by myself. The hotel was extremely clean and the staff were marvellous - I really couldn't fault them. They really looked after me as I spent much of my time alone, which was a bit daunting at first. I explored the local area every day and went into Shanghai - the first time in a taxi which was the equivalent of £6 and then used the metro which cost me 40p. It's very straightforward all the instructions are in both Chinese and English as are the announcements on the train and all the signs...so a lot easier than I imagined. Actually once I had been in to Shanghai it was a great place to come back too - there are some nice local restaurants nearby and if you want to eat fast food there are the usual big brands (KFC/McDonalds/Pizza Hut) but the local food is far better! Don't hesitate to book this hotel even if it's only for a night or two.
