Good location & decent stay

Shanghai, China | Jan 16, 2026 | Trip type: CouplesBaolong hotel has an excellent location in the heart of Shanghai. The whole place is dark dim-lit and seems like a small boutique style environment .The rooms are quite OK (simple and standard, not fancy ).The main USP is price and location. Its quite within budget for tourist (350-550 CNY per night). Its close to metro station, bus station, main shopping districts like west Nanjing road, people square etc. Many shopping malls and eatries all around.Easy access to most places in downtown by taxi/metro.The staff is OK (not too good with English).Overall a nice, cosy and well located property.

Just an okay hotel

Las Pinas, Philippines | Nov 21, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed at this property last March 2013 for an even in Shanghai called the World travel Fair. This hotel is just walking distance from the location where the event was held. It's also accessible to a lot of establishments like shopping centers, restaurants, convenience stores, etc. The rooms are made of wood, the one that I got smells funny but housekeeping made sure that my bedsheets were changed daily. They also serve free breakfast. The only thing that annoyed me is that staff doesn't speak english, even the hotel's frontdesk clerk can't help you out if you have questions. But all in all, not a bad hotel.

comfy enough to sleep

Quezon City, Philippines | Dec 4, 2025 | Trip type: Businessone of the advantages i got from this hotel was its proximity to my business venue - that's it. the place itself is tucked in a narrow alley, a short walking distance from the main street so there's no worry about noise because there are several bars lined along the street. i like the small garden outside the place where you can hang out or have coffee in the morning. the lobby is quite dark which makes it a lot smaller than it already is. there are a few tables which can sit around 10 people max so breakfast can be a bit of a riot. i do like to take my breakfast leisurely so i was not very pleased with this. the only consolation to this is the food itself leaves much to be desired. better to have coffee and buns at the nearby Starbucks in Shanghai Convention.
as expected with any other establishment in China, the staff can hardly understand or speak English which can be very frustrating at times. my colleagues and i spent almost half an hour checking in and the same when we checked out. my room on the 3rd level was pretty comfortable in terms of sleep quality. there are no windows so the room smells a bit musky. nothing a linen spray cannot fix. toilets are clean enough so that's a plus. all in all i would probably try another hotel next time i go to shanghai. one can get a better deal for the price. this was a one time deal for me. -
Cheap, clean, but . . .

Southwark | Jun 25, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThis hotel has some advantages: its cheap; its clean; it well located. The business room is quite large too and has broadband (through an ethernet cable).
But . . . the second room I stayed in was exceptionally smelly of fresh cigarette smoke from an adjoining room. Really unpleasant. Also, poor service let them down including slow check in and forgetting basics like toilet paper when cleaning the room! -
Worst service I have come across (even in China)

Taipei, Taiwan | May 25, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed at this hotel for two weeks when my company relocated me to China. Firstly, the location is outstanding, it is literally two minutes from Jingan Temple and just behind the Portman Ritz-Carlton. However, the location is not enough to redeem this hotel.
The rooms are decent size, but very old fashioned with lots of wood and quite dark. The lights are very bad and it just feels dark all the time. The air con didn't work at first, but when it got going it worked well. Even though I put the do not disturb sign outside, the cleaning staff would insist on banging on my door for a long time each morning. The internet was terrible, there were a number of networks to connect to and none of them worked. The only way to get any kind of internet was to use the ethernet cable.
The reception was the worst part though, hands down the worst, rudest, shameful staff I have ever encountered in China. If you can't speak Chinese (I can) then don't stay here, as the staff do not have one word of English between them. When you request something from them they openly shout 烦死了 (which means so much hassle you're killing me).
When I moved out, I forgot to bring the receipt for my work. I went back the next day and despite me staying there for two weeks and checking out the night before, she couldn't remember me.... She then told me that the person who does the receipts only works from 10pm to 6am, when all the guests are asleep which, if true, is truly remarkable.
If location is all that matters, then stay here. If you require even the smallest level of service, then stay well away. Oh, and it ain't cheap either!
