  I stayed for 4 days, and received excellent customer service as soon as I stepped out of the taxi. Personal attention given by the receptionist that after registration took m up to my room personally. I am impressed with that personal touch.
  Room is luxurious. Bathroom was exceptional. And breakfast was so good with great variety of options that I felt guilty. Not every staff speak good English but thumbs up to the, for trying and putting an effort.

• Four star riverfront hotel with awesome views

  It's not typical for me to stay in such a nice place. I was afforded a more luxurious stay based on my business trip. My gorgeous room contained the top amenities you'd guess for a four star hotel: Large fluffy bed, Full window automated cover, french press coffee maker, Riverfront view. The room is really for a couple with it's two mirrored sinks, large bathtub with TV, and separate Toilet/Shower rooms. Service here is top notch, I was acknowledged as a gold member and the duty manager appeared to greet me to the hotel. The employees speak English fluently and operate at a high standard for their guests. The hotel offers a spa, pool, and weightroom which I did not use. They have four onsite restaurant/lounge options which I also didn't try. I didn't choose their $30 breakfast option as I'm a principled budget traveler :D. As it was there's a local neighborhood a few minutes away where I scored some morning streetfood for the too right price of 3 and a half Yuan. Taxis serve the hotel frequently and there is bus service very close by as well. It's a 15 minute walk to the closest subway station but I didn't mind that as there's plenty of shops and stores on the route. I'd stay here again if the price is right...for the price paid it's actually quite the bargain for the brand and type of hotel. I'd like to give it 4.5 rating as I save 5 for the most perfect of hotels.

• Great Hotel - but october holiday masses demand tribute

  The hotel facilities are great and the city view is magnificent - but - the services suffered a bit due to national holiday.
  The whole experience started at the arrival. I arrived roound about 4 pm for check-in and had to wait 15min until the room would be ready.
  In the evening I was looking forward to the buffet - i heard from friends that it should be great - but it was closed - what a shame. Same thing with the other restaurants - english pubs in the old villa and italian restaurant - all closed. :-(
  Instead of that the hotel prepared an all you can eat menu for a-la-card orders. The quality of the food was great and very tasty.
  The breakfast buffet was completely overcrowded, i had to que for 20 min. The worst part that other customers where jumping the cue for various reasons and the staff was overpowered by this behaviour. The buffet was not in the best shape at 9.15 am.
  Checking out was a pleasure. The lady was very friendly and made me happy again.

• Good for business

  Situated right by the Huangpu river, Intercontinental Shanghai Expo is a short trek away from the main city centre - which is always nice as the crowd can be slightly overwhelming for first time visitors in Shanghai. Although I was merely in town for a short 24 hour trip, the hotel staff was keen on showing me around the hotel and the space it could offer.
  My room offered an expansive view of the river, which was nice in the daylight, but it got relatively dark and no view to be seen in the evening time. The overall ambiance in the room was dim and one thing I couldn't work out was the random allocation of the mirror in the shower - till this day I still can't figure out why it is placed there.
  I managed to try the Shanghainese restaurant within the hotel and it provided a comfortable setting, whilst the food was good, it wasn't anything incredibly memorable.
  During my breakfast in the hotel, I noticed a cute traditional brick house that was closely situated right next to the hotel, but did not have the time to take a quick peek at it - turns out it is called Liquor Factory, housing a stylish bar...would recommend hotel guests to give it a try if you are staying at Intercon.

  The hotel has extremely efficient and friendly staff. The facilities are excellent and the view of the city from my room was incredible. The location makes it excellent for getting to the conferencing facilities and good location to access the city from.
