• A great luxury hotel in the French Concession area

  I often stay at 12 Hengshan when in Shanghai on business. The guestrooms are so comfortable and the neighborhood has many charming restaurants along the tree lined streets in the old French Concession area of Shanghai.
  My only complaint is that the breakfast is extremely expensive and one night I had dinner there which I do not recommend, it was not up to par with the quality of the charming neighborhood restaurants. I did order room service which was quite good and delivered within 20 minutes. The hotel exteriors are designed by Mario Botta as a long elliptical courtyard, interiors by Yabu Pushelberg. Unfortunately all the retail stores along the lobby level have been closed down, a sign of the economic times as they were super luxury. Now the lobby level seems ghosty and void.

  Housekeeping, concierge and guest service were proactive and service oriented and exceeded expectation. Keico from guest service even proactively offered personalized service to fix my computer wifi.
  However, front desk was worst and not up to standard. Sigh!

  The staff is well trained and responsive, the rooms are luxury decorated and the Spa and Fitness centre is superb!
  A very new, clean and high class Starwood hotel.
  On my next trip to Shanghai I'll be back to the "12" for sure.

  Best starwood property ever!!!
  Great location, fantastic spread of breakfast and the room was extremely well decorated and clean.
  Enjoyed a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful suite due to our platinum status. Felt like a home away from home. The staff attented to all our needs and request.
  Special thanks to Mr Macklin for going the extra mile that made out stay extra ordinary. He really lead by example. Hope that we could meet such service orientated managers in other starwoods property. It really made our impression last.

  After trying many hotels on my regular Shanghai business trips I think I've finally found "the one". From the moment I stepped into the Twelve a sense of calm washed over me. In a crazy busy city that's quite a feat. The front desk staff warmly welcomed me and I was taken up to my courtyard view room swiftly and immediately. The hotel is in an oval shape so my room overlooked the hotel garden which was very "zen like". Soft music, water flowing, bamboo swaying, reflective pools of water and quiet surrounded me. The bonus of having a balcony was great as sometimes you just don't want to be locked in an airless air conditioned room. The room service was excellent, food was great and after traveling for three weeks in China, I felt like I was home. In fact, I stayed in my room for a full day because it felt so comfortable. The 5th floor restaurant has a wood burning pizza oven which made an excellent and delicious pizza. Breakfast choices were numerous and also delicious. The hotel staff even called me to ask if I enjoyed the food...clearly the staff care and are proud of their hotel. They should be, it's wonderful little oasis. Also, the French concession neighborhood is filled with ex pats and locals...not billions of tourists. There are numerous restaurants, cafes, parks and bars within a 5 min lovely walk down the tree lined streets. The subway is also a 5 min walk. I can't say enough about this hotel and how much I enjoyed my stay. I will definitely return and highly recommend Twelve to my colleagues and friends.
