• Nice hotel, friendly service

  The hotel was nice and the room was good, smaller than our room at the Holiday Inn Golden Mile in Hong Kong though. The restaurant manager who was in charge at breakfast was very friend and had the best English, but check in was quite difficult as the girl on reception could not understand us well. Check out also took a while as the card machine was not working well and we were catching a train so I was not pleased.
  The bar was empty and therefore lacked atmosphere. There were plenty of people in the hotel but they did not seem to use the bar.
  Finding a restaurant near to the hotel was difficult so after the first night we ate nearer to the main shopping area. From the airport it is bus number 5 which costs 22yuan and I do recommend the bus as it has air conditioning and was comfortable. I think a taxi would be quite expensive as the journey took about 45 minutes. There is a small supermarket on the way from the hotel to the railway station, only 300m approx and you can get drinks there, there is also a McDonald's next to the supermarket, which we went to as we couldn't find anywhere and we're tired. The hotel was in a convenient location for us as we were then travelling to another city by train and I would say it was worth the money I paid.

  Thank you for choosing the Holiday Inn Shanghai Downtown. Our hotel is located in the commercial centre of Shanghai Jing'an District, only 5 minutes walking distance to Shanghai Railway Station, subway entrance of line 1/3/4 and airport shuttles bus Line 5. Pudong International Airport is 45 minutes by car and a speedy 20 minutes to Hongqiao International Airport. It is very convenient. And we apologize that your recent stay did not meet expectations. We will organize the staff English training to improve their English level and our service. We do hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future, so that we can provide a better experience.

  As usual stayed at this Holiday Inn hotel 3 more times this past July and August (in 2018). A very positive experience this time (sans the deposit on my credit card "saga" last time in 2017 which was in my review last time:-)
  
  Hotel staff (from front desk to concierge to housekeeping) are nice and warm. Rooms are clean,...
  
  Something negative (at least in my view/opinion): There are always some pimps almost the whole night time every night, sitting/standing by the hotel entrance (at the smoking area) soliciting customers offering prostitutes! I know these guys or their "service" are NOT related to the hotel at all, but they are using hotel property (for FREE) harassing hotel guests, and yet the hotel is doing nothin' to get ride of them all from the hotel's property!!! I thought pimping/prostitution is illegal in China, or no?
  
  Again as I said last time, I will be back;-)

• Excellent location, great value for money

  Reasonably sized room, extremely clean, comfy beds. Bathroom with tub and all necessary gratuities, including bath robe, hair dryer and even ironing machine. We could even take umbrellas from the hotel when it rained. But most importantly, being near the Railway Station, this hotel is connected to a lot of bus lines and 3 subway lines. You can literally go anywhere in Shanghai from here with zero hassle to find transport.

• convenient location

  Holiday Inn Shanghai Downtown is located in a primarily convenient location. Just a square's length from the Main train station, a mini market that stays 24hr open and a market with bazaar goods in the basement and electronics on the upper floors. Bars are also available in a walk's distance. The only disadvantage are the public works taking place on the avenue in front of the hotel which might cause an inconvenience at late hours despite the double glass windows and depending on the room orientation (it didn't cause any for me).
  Standard double room is equipped with all necessary items, like mini bar, analog scale, safe box, and wifi without the use for a password. Abundant plugs accommodating multiple plug in types are also available. Only thing is that the air condition in the room although I adjusted it in a more convenient temperature kept producing freezing temperature, so I had to switch on and off as I found cosy. As the habit has it in China they supply 2 bottles of water every morning with the housekeeping service.
  The lobby is spacious and the dinning area quite nice, overlooking the lobby of the hotel.
  For a 4-star hotel is pretty good actually.

  Typical Holiday Inn with very friendly and supportive staff, but hard for them if you ask for something not standard ( late stay/check out, for example). Breakfast is good. Good rooms, but You cannot see something from the window. Quit.
