Price and Location are the key words
Lizhe L
Melbourne, Australia | Oct 20, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelWhere else near the french concession could you get this kind of price, if you know please tell me. I've even asked the front desk and it turns out, if you stayed for a month, it'd even be cheaper than renting, now that's pretty cool.
Well, all the coolness ends there. At first glance, the word tacky comes to mind, it feels like an old Shanghaiese apartment building, with contrived decorations that doesn't really go. It's very run down, or maybe it's got some old Shanghai charm if you're into that kind of thing, not really to my taste.
The room was very basic, do not expect anything outside of budget hotel standards. In fact I got a room without a window, then I complained and got moved.
Although very old, it seemed to be clean enough at first, that's before you see baby roaches roaming around everywhere.
I left my cup of coffee on the table for a couple of hours while I went out, and when I got back there was white dust on top of the drink, turns out it was the paint on the ceiling falling off.
The bed was okay but wasn't the best, the water takes like 10 minutes to warm up. So if you're standing there thinking, damn, no hot water, do not panic, just wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and wait.... and it eventually become warm, and I mean warm, not hot.
The room wasn't very sound proof, in fact you can hear people arguing every day. There was even a fight, but I think it might have been out on the street, I couldn't really tell.
This place really sucks doesn't it? Then I stayed for another 3 days.... What can I say? Again, location and price. -
It's not the best, but I keep coming back.

Pullman, Washington | May 27, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessNegatives:
Staff doesn't speak English
Housekeeping can be noisy in the morning
Positives:
Larger rooms
Quirky furniture
Great price for the location
I sometimes do business in Shanghai, so I've stayed here on multiple occasions. I'm always trying to find a good hotel for under 200rmb, but never find a good one. I've stayed at hostels, business hotels, etc. and this is the best hotel I've found for under 200rmb/night.
So if you're looking for Western standards, be prepared to spend at least twice as much. But if you are on a budget, I highly recommend this hotel.
Also, I've stayed there four times, and I've only once had a problem with the wifi. I'm not sure what other people are talking about. -
Not the best

Queretaro, Mexico | Dec 23, 2025Stayed for 2 nights. Unfortunately I had already payed for my room or else I would have chosen another hotel. The staff doesn't speak English, there's wifi only in the lobby, there's a ton of noice, found some baby cockroaches in my room, as well as a chicken wing just laying there for who knows how long!!!
The water was hot and it takes 5 min to reach the subway. Chinese breakfast was included. I guess this is what you get when you want to save a couple of bucks. Would never go back or recommend it. -
Okay...but could be better.

Dec 4, 2025We arrived at the hotel in the early hours of the morning and were very happy to see that they had 24 hour reception! We checked in and carried our bags to our room opened the door and felt like we had walked back in time. The wallpaper was something else saying that the actual room was sufficient. Not very big but we were only using it to sleep in. The location was acceptable we flagged down taxis for whenever we wanted to go. Wifi only worked in reception. Overall you get what you pay for. Also must visit the Shanghai Zoo!

monroy, spain | Nov 5, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe hotel was reserved for the company I work for. I'm here for a week and there is no internet except in the lobby nor are there staff who speak english. Most people check in one night and check out. good parts are the location and hot water. The rooms are not cleaned everyday. It is ok for turists but not ok for people doing business.
