A 3 night stay
oobbiieboobbiie
Greater Sydney, Australia | Oct 9, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelFenyang is beautiful, rooms are spacious, you can often hear music playing from the conservatory next door. I tried to get involved with the hotel by exploring its facilities starting off with the buffet at 98RMB take that money and search for something elsewhere. The service is good however staff will find it useful and convenient to speak English, it depends who you bump into however it should be mandatory.
I would go again and recommend this boutique hotel, as for the communication it is fairly simple to check you in, pay a deposit and check you out however if you're in need of assistance such as a taxi, restaurant bookings like other hotels offer you may be lost in translation. -
Decent hotel in a lovely area
Carolineb2736
London, United Kingdom | Sep 28, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayWe chose to stay in the French concession as we were told this area was quieter with beautiful streets and nice bars and coffee shops. This is definitely what we got. We really enjoyed exploring the area around the hotel and found lots of nice places to eat and drink. The hotel itself was ideal for us as it had two really comfy queen size beds in a huge bedroom with a lovely big bathroom. That's all we really needed as we spent most of the time out exploring. The grounds are beautiful and the hotel is very well kept as far as we could tell. It was super quiet and we barely bumped into anyone else other than the two wedding parties that were taking place while we were there. We didn't have breakfast included but found great places to eat nearby. The staff weren't great at recommending anywhere but we had wifi so checked out places on line. Overall we had a great stay here and I'd recommend to others.

Great location

Bangkok | Aug 4, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI have stayed a few times on business trips. The hotel is indeed in a nice garden and a great area, walking distance from the shopping district. Rooms are just average, with a super slow wifi (when it works). Breakfast and dinner are also just average. I would suggest it for business trips.

Quiet, clean and comfortable

New York City, New York | Jun 8, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelI stayed at the Fenyang for 2 weeks while working in the neighborhood. After reading some reviews on TripAdvisor, I was glad to find that the wifi hookup is now available in the room, and it worked pretty well. I don't know if it was free, as my room was paid for by the company. I had a balcony room with a pleasant view, but there was no screen on the balcony door, so had to leave it closed to keep out mosquitoes. There was a small fridge and electric kettle and porcelain cups. The plugs thankfully worked with both Western and Chinese appliances, as my converter didn't fit the socket. They provided complimentary bottled water, a hairdryer, umbrella, toiletries, ironing board and iron, and the tub was suitable for baths. The breakfast buffet had enough Western fare to make it okay for those not into Chinese food. I recommend the delicious soup dumplings. Was glad I'd brought my aeropress and some ground coffee, as the coffee at breakfast resembled tar more often than not. The two times I went to the restaurant for non-breakfast meals were not good. I was saved by the food court at the nearby hi-rise luxury mall (ask for directions to iaPM), which also had a supermarket on the lower level with Western groceries. The staff and maids were all friendly and helpful. Do ask them to call a cab for you rather than try to flag one out front. I asked for directions to be written in Chinese to give to the cab driver but with mixed results. Have a map with you that you can point at just in case. They don't have postage stamps at the desk but will give you directions to a nearby post office. As for restaurants, if you go left out the front gate and walk down Fenyang Road (bear right at the fork), you'll eventually reach a bakery, Spanish, German and Greek restaurants and a Domino's Pizza. The streets are lovely and tree-lined all over the French Concession neighborhood.

Nice Hotel. Terrible WiFi.
JWHammer
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada | May 8, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThis is a nice boutique hotel located in a suburb of Shanghai. Not really close to shopping and all, but right across the street from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Rooms are clean and well appointed, though my deadbolt jammed and I couldn't open the door in the morning. Had to MacGyver my way out. Buffet breakfast is classic Chinese and mediocre, at best. I'd stay here again, but will bring a hotspot. The WiFi is disastrously slow.
As of May, 2015, I'm giving hotels a 3/5 (at best) if the WiFi is slow. As a business person, I need to be connected. In this day and age, slow WiFi is absolutely unacceptable. Smarten-up, people.
