• Best Doubletree ever!

  I would say that this hotel has only one small down side...it is a bit away from the downtown area. However the neighborhood is very much alive and the area is very nice, with many shops and restaurants.
  But despite the little travel distance to the center, I can honestly say that this is the best Doubletree hotel I have ever stayed at (I stayed at many).
  Its best asset is the staff, they are all so very friendly and helpful. You feel at home right away the minute you set foot in the hotel.
  We received a really nice upgrade (on our HHonors membership) to a suite room on the 30th floor of the East Wing. The room had all the amenities we needed and more...a lovely room and a great upgrade. We even received special attentions in the room.
  The executive lounge was one of the best I have ever visited. At happy hour they offered a full buffet with many appetizers, one main dish, fruits, cheese and sweet deserts.
  The breakfast was also very good.
  I wish all Doubletree (and other Hilton family hotels) had this level of hospitality and service!
  Next time we visit Shanghai, we will definitely stay at this hotel again!

  This hotel is in Pudong and hence makes it close to the airport, it is a 20 to 30 min car ride outside of rush hour, it is also a short taxi ride away from the Maglev station which provides a high speed link to the airport. The hotel is very good, clean and has all the amenities you would need. it is also a 20min taxi ride to downtown Shanghai, and areas like the bund and Nanjing Road.

  Spacious rooms, great beds, view is fantastic, staff are not that friendly i expect but still ok, near some shopping malls. Very calm and quiet place, food is good, i have a very relaxing stay everytime i go there.

  Most of the staff well versed with English , so communication is not an issue. Service level can be improved. Food options are plenty with good taste and quality. Stay is comfortable and room size is also good

  Most of us thought smoking had been banned in public places in China. Wrong! I came across this in an unfurtunate situation tonight. Post dinner I wanted a digestif. I had a glass of wine in the main lobby area which counts as the bar in this hotel (no separate area) but then on the table next to me a man lit up and puffed enthusiastically at a large cigar. Almost before I could react I was in a cloud of tobacco smoke and on returning to my room my clothes smelt of smoke.
  Now I have no philosophical objection to smoking. I respect the rights of smokers - I just do not want to be polluted by their hobby. I retreated and complained to hotel staff. They told me that:-
  1. Unlike other Hilton hotels in China they are not non smoking; and
  2. I should have known smoking was allowed because my table did not have a non smoking card on it.
  My reply to say that I was surprised that smoking was allowed was ignored but I made the point I would have preferred that the signs on the table said "smoking was allowed" rather than the reverse given that in most Chinese hotels smoking is no longer permitted. This would have alerted me to the issue rather than what happened. This was all a bit surprising as when checking in I was warned of the penalties for smoking in my room although I made it clear I was a non smoker.
  Nothing against the hotel but non smokers be aware!
