  The hotel was absolutely gorgeous, but I must admit that im a bit surprised that even in a hotel like this, the workers has still problems speaking English. I do know this is the far East, but still it's a five star hotel in the middle of Shanghai.

  It was a very good stay, even though my room smelled like cigarette, we stayed for only one night so we could handle it, other wise we would have asked for a change and I´m sure we could have got it.
  Ver classic hotel, makes you feel like in the Old Shanghai, but with all new furbishing, very good and polite staff, not far from PVG airport, very good stay over all.

  We spent ten days at the Hongta while my partner was doing business in the area.
  It's a great hotel. Large room and bathroom. Speedy housekeeping service. Extremely polite and helpful staff. The included breakfast buffet had a large variety of western and eastern items to choose from.
  Less than a ten minute walk to Pudian Metro station.
  The only negative was that, even though we were in a non-smoking room, we could smell our neighbour's smoke through the bathroom vents. The staff offered to change our room, but we found that turning the AC fan on high helped enough.
  It really is a wonderful hotel.

  Very comfortable, excellent service, beautiful room and large bathroom with tub and separate shower. One of the great hotel beds for good sleep. The breakfast is absolutely incredible with a very large choice of tasty western and Chinese delicacies. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the subway on Century Ave., and the subway must be taken into account during rush hour traffice, which keeps the roads clogged, if you need to get somewhere early in the morning outside of Pudong, for example. Very nice pool with a great view, but men as well as women are required to wear a swimcap. They are sold at the pool for 50 renmibi. Bring one with you.

  Traveling for business can be challenging in China. You never really know what your going to get as the hotel industry here is a little like the Wild West. The Hongta is a safe bet in a fantastic city. I have been coming to China for 20 years and for the last 3 years, when I come to Shanghai I usually stay here. The location in Pudong puts in the area of Shops and restaurants away for the crowded Nanjing Rd area of the Bund. The Hotel has old world class and service. I always book the club level for the breakfast and afternoon appetizers. The bathrooms are clean well appointed and classy. Comfy beds. The hotel has a great raised lobby bar over looking the lobby and always has people milling about from all walks. As a Canadian that does not speak the language you can feel detached when in China so it's nice to be around people just looking to relax when not working.
  Close to the airport and highways it is easy to get in and out of.
