WORD UP

Scottsdale, Arizona | Aug 27, 2025 | Trip type: Businessi have stayed here about 6 different times. By far the best place I have stayed in Shanghai. For the money you can not beat the room, service, location, buffet, restaurant, and atmosphere. I hate giving it a good review because it will be harder for me to get a room next time.
The staff is number one period. No grumpy faces, no smugness you get at other hotels in Shanghai, all friendly and very helpful...ENGLISH SPOKEN HERE! This time my award of excellence goes to "summer" who helped me on line through Emails.
The food buffet in the morning was as usual excellent, and is complimentary with most rooms.
the room was clean and pleasant. And the location is about 300 feet from exit 4 of line 2 subway. So easy to find a caveman could do it.
I will stay again for sure. The only reason I did not give this pace 5 stars is because they still have no wireless in the rooms. just a cable connection. But not a big deal really. Thank you again Ruitai Hotel you are the best. -
Great Location... but very hard beds
Raymond T
London | Jun 30, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis hotel is great for location and one of the main reasons why we chose this hotel, it is 1-2 minutes away from West Nanjing Station and there are also restaurants and drinks stores and a 7 Eleven (Popular Asian newsagent) nearby the hotel. When we arrived to the hotel we found the room not so clean and there are signs of rust found in the bathroom.
The room is small and cosy, but the beds are very hard so if you prefer a soft bed, this hotel is not for you. As we preferred a soft bed we were disappointed and we used an extra duvet supplied in the room to soften the bed a bit (which was not moved away by the housekeepers and cleaners, thankfully). Most of the facilities were in the room except Wi-Fi can only be accessed in the lobby area (lights in the lobby area went off after 11pm). The air conditioning was weak too.
In terms of friendliness of staff, they do speak some English and they were helpful in terms of arranging a taxi to pick us up from the hotel to the airport. Expect to spend about 70-80 CNY getting to Shanghai Airport (Hongqiao) Terminal 2. The breakfast served was limited in range and did not taste very nice (although I have never seen chicken nuggets in a breakfast buffet before) and breakfast is covered for one person a day, so if you travel with someone and want to have breakfast with them in the hotel there is a 58 CNY charge for each additional person. The minibar is also cheap (10 CNY = £1 roughly speaking).
To be honest, I feel that there were some good points of the hotel, but there could be some improvements, such as better breakfast range and having softer beds. -
Very good

Awesome location - eat breakfast at Wagas.

Oct 9, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe hotel is at a great location. Close to Shanghai railway station and very close to subway stop (3 minute walk). It is located on a walking street full of restaurants. We did not have the hotel breakfast and instead enjoyed the 50% the Wagas breakfast on weekdays which is a few minutes walk down the street.
I saw another person mentioned that you can ask for a softer address. I did not do that and will hopefully remember that for next time. -
great location, poor service, tired amenities and dirty bathroom

Perth, Australia | Nov 19, 2025 | Trip type: Businessstayed for three nights (Nov 2014) in an Executive business room which is generous in size, the bed is very comfortable, but that is where the good news ends...sadly.
The bathroom is very small in comparison and full of mould (Manager says: "all bathrooms are like that" so there is no point changing rooms), the central heating was set far too high for sleeping, but can not be adjusted for each room and the wifi was impossibly unstable: it took 7 hours to send/receive a test message at one poi,nt.
When confronted with these issues, the Manager at first didn't want to discuss them (took 6 hours and 4 follow up calls to come to my room to inspect), made excuses, didn't have the facts and blamed the age of the hotel for poor service standards, but wouldn't offer any remedies or solutions.
Overall, very disappointing!
