Lakeside Holiday Inn Shanghai
Jeffrey R
Fushun, China | Jun 29, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesAfter some messing around with a booking at another hotel we were guided to the Lakeside Holiday Inn. The location is good with The Bund and Nanjing Road within easy walking distance, but the corridors could do with a good clean. The corridor carpet on the third floor was filthy and had a musty smell. The rooms were clean and tidy. Free internet was available at reception but only one terminal. A passable breakfast was available in the dining room on the ground floor.
Not a hotel I would recommend for discerning guests. -
Basic but cheap motel

Jun 16, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyLocated right next to the motorway and beside an underpass, this has no lakeside view at all, although it is next to some water way. We suspect our floor was recently renovated so our floor had a thin layer of dust and a view of neighbouring buildings. Breakfast was very local Chinese- thin water congee with pickles, pumpkin, soya sauce noodles.
No wifi connection but one CCTV channel in English.
Nothing outstanding at all about this place, but at least relatively close to the old city, Bund etc.
If this is the cheapest you can find and closest to the city, then worth a shot. But if comfort and experience is more important, this is not the place for you. -

Surabaya, Indonesia | May 19, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawaywe stay only for one night at this hotel, and everything is standard. Nothing special and nothing worst. Located only for 3 block from Nanjing shoping area, about 10-15 minutes walking from exit Metro station at Henderson Mall.
Not to hard to find this place, just follow the direction and you'll be found easily. They are located just front of the river and not to far going to any attraction in shanghai. going to the Bund just follow the river about 15 minutes walking. This area little bit quite, but you'll be found street snack/food about one block from this hotel until midnite.
The staff helpful with little english, and internet access in every room with your 6 number ID password. The room was okay, clean, comfort for this class hotel. Don't be to much expactation!! The breakfast just okay, with minimum menu. they serve from 7 to 9 and will be nothing in 30 minuted before close.
I will not come back for this hotel, except they upgrading to a new one. really need it! -
Worst hotel I have ever stayed at

South London | Nov 27, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelWhere do I start - there is no English traveler information such as Metro maps or tours.
The reception staff speak very little English.
The Internet pc is in Chinese and I couldn't work out the control panel menu to find the correct panel to change the language.
Of my six day stay I had maybe three days of hot water, I had to have my room switched but that didn't make any difference.
When I raised it with reception they repeated "no hot water?" and then gave a blank look, although it was clear the woman on knew what I meant, but didn't seem to have a clue as to to what to do next.
The toilets do not flush very well, often backing up.
The rooms are noisy - you can hear the person in the next room snoring.
The seals on the double glazed windows have failed so you can hear everything on the street - luckily it is a quiet street with no traffic at night.
Non-smoking rooms only means they take the ash-trays out... people still smoke in the hallways and room next door.
The beds are very very firm.
They do not change the sheets very often (couldn't tell exactly as I was only there a short time and changed rooms).
On a plus point I thought the breakfast was ok.
And it was close to Nanjing rd station.
There is a river view - more like a canal of grey-ish brown colour that isn't particularly scenic, but better that a street full of cars or another building I guess. -
only stay here if you have a really tight budget

Vancouver, Canada | Oct 19, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe were shocked to see how dirty the bathroom was, especially the shower stall, it had lots of hair, grime, tiles seemed to have never been cleaned. (Changed room once, we were given a bigger room, but condition was about the same.) Same condition around sink faucets. Dirt and dust everywhere else. Shower didn't work properly, with no consistency in temperature! You do get clean towels and toiletories daily. They did make our bed and dumped the waste basket daily. We had stayed in other budget hotels in Shanghai, but this one was the worst but also the cheapest...lesson learned. Very convenient location though. Business cards of call girls slided through the door daily didn't bother us too much...
