  i visted this hotel second time. Good location just of poeple square garden. just opp. side of metro gate no. 9. centerly located between radison blu and park hotel. wax musem of shanghai is near by. this time back building Supreme room. but they to small room. front room are bigger. and wifi works in the lift lobby. cooling is low in the room. No problem in taking pickup girls in the hotel. no question is asked about it.

  The room was very roomy. I got the Deluxe with 2 beds. What i didn't like was that the rooms were old. Also the view is not very good. In hind sight I may have wanted to pay the extra amount for the room with a view. Basically your view is the otehr side of the hotel which means you have to keep your curtains closed or someone can see into your room.

  The hotel is central, in fact you could wish for a better location just above People's Park with East Nanjing Rd 5 minutes away and the Bund about a 20 minute walk at the end of East Nanjing. The styling is 1930's so plenty of history and period atmosphere however while the rooms are large enough the plumbing is 1930's with trickling shower and lukewarm water.
  The staff are helpful enough when they want to be but if you have a complaint they won't speak English. The positive was that my wife became very ill and needed antibiotics, the manager understood and directed us to the hospital.
  When you go to hospital you have to register and then see the doctor, the registration and consultation fee was £1.50 and the doctor was very good, between the English she know and her translator app on the phone we had a diagnosis and prescription. The drugs cost about £20 and whole episode took about 1.5 hours so really quite remarkable as when we got home we couldn't get an appointment for the GP at all and only saw the GP one week later. So the Chinese health service is great.
  Another positive is that there is a restaurant street close by, as you exit the hotel turn right and take the first right thereafter. Along this street must be 40 or so restaurants ranging from inexpensive to very expensive and different styles of cooking so you will find something. The food is excellent and you can eat reasonably for little.
  There is a computer internet link in the room but wi-fi is a bit intermittent

  We (two adults) only stayed one night at Pacific Hotel, at the beginning of our China vacation.
  Pros:
  - Good location if you want to walk to and around Nanjing Road.
  -Very comfortable bed.
  - Large room, with desk/chair, 3 large chairs around a coffee table, table with TV, large closet, refrigerator, hot water pot, tea, cups.
  - Heated toilet seat.
  - Good water pressure and all bathing amenities, including toothbrush/paste, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, comb, sewing kit, hair dryer.
  - Decent variety at buffet breakfast - mostly eastern, but some western options. Nespresso maker for coffee.
  - Although dated in decoration, I found it to be clean.
  Cons:
  - We found only one outlet working, and it was located by a floor lamp, so no table. We had to set our re-charging items on the floor.
  - Service from staff was ok, we never had any real issues. I would classify it as service without a smile. I believe that hospitality industry should provide service with a smile!
  I really appreciated the older, Shanghai building and interior designs. If they upgraded the furnishings and trained staff to provided quality service, the Pacific Hotel would easily move to the next level.

  I travel regularly to Shanghai and the hotel I normally stay is was closed on my last visit so I choose the Pacific Hotel. I would never go back there. The room was fine, not nice but fine, everything was tired and dated. The breakfast was awful, I stayed here for 4 nights but ate the breakfast only once. In particular I found the staff quite rude. I needed a cab to get a meeting and asked the staff to flag one down for me, there seemed to be a bit of an argument between the staff who didn't want to help me. Eventually I got someone to come outside and flag a cab, he stayed about a minute then said 'hang on i'll be back' and just disappeared. When I eventually went back inside, I was told 'no help' and the staff turned on their heels and ignored me. This is not the most expensive of hotels but it is also not as cheap as it should be. There are far better hotels in Shanghai for this money.
