Simply the Best.
AGoryachev
Moscow, Russia | Oct 13, 2025 | Trip type: Business
My stay in The Peninsula Shanghai has been close to the travelers' ideal. I am sincerely grateful to the entire staff of the hotel for the highest standards of the service.
In particular, I'm very appreciate the personal attention of the front office manager Sunny Sun. Not only Mrs. Sun do her work impeccably but really care about her clients and it was that really turned me into the ambassador of the brand. Simply, there's no traffic on the extra mile for her.
In my opinion, The Peninsula hotel is the first hotel choice in Shanghai to those, who 'always satisfied with the best'. Unbelievable location, breathing view, fabulous a la card breakfast, sterling SPA, awesome restaurants and a bars, refined public etc. etc. but the most importantly highest possible standards of hospitality.
To cut it short, simply THE BEST.
You could say too many superlatives for a real experience )) Yes, it might be true. It's highly unusual for me to write a review and, without saying, the review of this kind. I have been really touched. -
Worth trying !

Hong Kong, China | Oct 12, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessFirst of all the location is perfect : on the Bund
The suites on the Bund are breathtaking : size, design, equipments, view !!!
The Lobby is pleasant and always "busy" with beautiful people. The place to be in Shanghai.
We tried the Spa (10/10), the gym and swimming pool (10/10)
Last but not least : food ! Sir Ellis restaurant offers one of the best views over
the river and by far the best "tomahwak" (long beef rib) on earth.
The Chinese caviar is surprisingly tasty. The Manager Jean-Claude is a peach
of a gentleman.
The service is not yet quite at HongKong level but getting there. Let's be patient its
worth it ! -
Oh La La! Favorite Hotel in China!

Kenwood | Oct 12, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesIs there anything better than the Peninsula? We stayed at several 5 star hotels on our trip to China - but this was our favorite! The food was so good that we ate there 2 of our 3 nights in Shanghai and we never eat at hotel restaurants. The service, the decor, the rooms are sublime. We ate at Sir Elly's Restaurant our first night after having cocktails at the top of the Peninsula - the best bar we've ever been to - the views are outstanding! Thank goodness we took pictures that night because it rained the next 2 nights and was closed. Sir Elly's stayed open for us to serve us a super elegant dinner - and no rush at all! Then we also ate at Yi Long Court. Highly recommend the Peninsula Hotel and the restaurants. PS Breakfast in the lobby was a treat also. Nice to be served a made to order breakfast!

Epitome of Excellence

Los Angeles, CA | Oct 9, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis was our second stay at the Peninsula Hotel in Shanghai. It remained as one of the best hotels in China, and perhaps in all of Asia. The bedroom room was very spacious and tastefully designed and laid out, with a spectacular view of the Huangpu River and the Pudong district across the river. There was also a separate dressing room, which was convenient for luggage storage. The rooms were all impeccably clean, and furnished with all the amenities. At breakfast, there was freshly squeezed orange juice (the mark of every truly 5-star hotel), excellent Cappuccino, and a variety of western and Chinese choices to be ordered from a menu – no buffet breakfast here. The hotel is located at one end of the Bund and right next to the former British Consulate – with a beautiful garden open to Peninsula guests. In the evening, a short stroll on the Bund would be an excellent way to end a day. If we ever go back to Shanghai, we will sure stay at the Peninsula again. Highly recommended.

The Best in Shanghai

Sydney | Oct 8, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesI have stayed here numerous times before and always had the fondest memories. The rooms are beautiful. Just like the Peninsula's in Hong Kong and Tokyo, it is the most technologically advanced. I booked a basic suite facing the the Bund but was upgraded to a deluxe suite, which was fantastic!
I do recall however that the standard rooms were exceptionally spacious with a walk-in closet and a small foyer. Everything from the lights, tv, temperature, curtains can be controlled by the bed side panels. The bathroom too does have a selection of audio and video selection, as well as different light settings.
The breakfast is superb! The swimming pool is beautiful with its sky light and views over the American embassy gardens. Sir Elly's bar on the roof top of the hotel gives you the best view if your room doesn't come with one.
Although the hotel afford the most spectacular views over the bund, I am not too fond of its location as I would rather be near the Xintiandi area.
A minor problem I encountered was with the airport transfers. The limo used seem to have been outsourced to a 3rd party. It wasn't spotless and there wasn't much room for my luggage as there were other stuff in the luggage compartment. I wrote to the hotel upon my return home and the hotel graciously refunded me the cost of the transfers, as well as offered complimentary airport transfers for my next stay. Truly 5* service!
