  My family of four stayed here for 4 days in 2 loft studio executive rooms.
  On arrival, we were very impressed with the service we received on entering and at check in. The staff are friendly and speak good English (except the maids).
  The rooms were bright, modern and spacious. However, I don't feel the rooms are as clean as they could be. It certainly should not consist of a used ear bud on our kitchen floor. As we had arrived late, we left it there hoping the cleaner would get it the following morning. After returning the following evening, we were surprised to find it still there. I informed the receptionist as we left that night for dinner. It was still there after dinner. It was cleaned the next day, whether that was due to our complaint or because we left some rubbish next to it for them to notice it.
  A lot of reviews complain about the lack of privacy to the toilet & shower. We had no problems. It's off-putting because the walls and doors are glass but they are transluscent and only a blurry shadow can be seen.
  Coffees and teas were not replenished daily. After reminding them, only one of our rooms got replenished.
  According to Trip Advisor, this hotel offers free breakfast, IT DOES NOT.
  On a better note, Modena is situated in an ideal location. There is a supermarket in the shopping centre across the road above the Metro (Line 7). The shopping centre has a very good value for money food court where you can buy a beef fried rice from as little as £1.60!
  Overall, good place to stay if you're in need of somewhere cheap and cheerful and convenient.

  We stayed 6 nights here. We had a loft room with queen size bed on the main floor and another of the same size in the loft area with a desk work area. Western and asian tv channels. Complimentary bottles of water each day.
  There is a kitchenette area and a nice medium sized mini fridge. We didn't get to cook as we mostly ate out.
  A/C worked really well.
  They have 5 washing machines and 5 Dryers on level 1, you exchange 25 yuan for a token at reception to be used to wash a load or dry a load. They do provide free liquid washing detergent.
  Staff at the reception are friendly and helpful.
  There is a small shopping mall next door with and supermarket and a pretty good food court.
  At night you there can be up 3 groups where the local ladies and men are doing their dance exercise outside the mall.
  It is easy to get to the hotel by Metro from either airports. Exit 5 of Langao Metro station (Line 7) is the closet exit to the hotel, just walk past the Renaissance Shanghai Putuo Hotel and you are there, it is only 1-2 min walk.
  Langao station is only a 25 minute ride to People Square station (Nanjing Pedestrian street).
  If you after a Shanghai Metro app, I highly recommend the "Metro Shanghai Subway" app produced by MetroMan. Works offline, shows you the fare price of the journey, time it takes, you can enter start and end stations from selecting from the map or enter the station name.

  Stayed here for 2 nights with friends
  The hotel is situated close to the metro though not very close to the city centre, it is well placed and the neighborhood is safe and quiet. The metro station has a small mall with shops and a foodcourt.
  The apartment is tidy and well designed to maximize the space. Has a small balcony and has most things needed for comfort. Has a small kitchenette and spacious cupboards. The toilet is small but tidy. We have no problem with the design at all, but the colored glass walls of the toilet provides little privacy especially when you are in the shower, and someone is on the loft, they can see everything. We had to improvise and put towels over the glass doors to provide some privacy. Apart from that its ok. The staff are nice. Very polite. The food at breakfast time is so so.. edible but not spectacular either. Has the usual egg bacon and sausages and veggies. Not a lot of choices but enough to get you through the morning.
  Good value for money. Highly recommended.

  This was a great find. This property was very affordable and allowed 4 people. There is a large over queen size bed on the main floor and another of the same size in the loft area with a desk work area. There is a tiny kitchenette area and a nice medium sized mini fridge. We had a great space with a great AC and great service. Hotel Staff was kind and courteous and helped with a late check out. The breakfast was included and was an asian style buffet and a western style buffet. Bread, muffins, toast cereal. You can also get great coffee and omelettes or eggs any way you like them. Very good! This property is also right over the Metro line 7 Langao stop. Great food in the subway line area as well as a small grocery down there as well as a Mcdonald's and subway sandwich shop. Use the subway as you can connect all over the city from this location. Great find and we will be back often.

  During a recent extended stay in Shanghai, someone recommended I stay at the Modena because of the apartment like rooms available. It was great! First floor had a full kitchen and eating area. A few steps up took me to a living room with a big-screen TV, comfortable sofa and chair as well as a pleasant balcony with a nice view of the city street below. Then, another flight of stairs took me to a loft area where the bedroom was. It was very comfortable, especially for an extended stay. There were several grocery stores in the area so I had no trouble stocking my refrigerator with food. The staff was very friendly and the place very clean. I also liked the area as it was good to go out and walk around and see the local culture. The hotel itself is on a quiet side street so it was quiet. Walk a half block and you were on a very busy road with lots to do and see. So if your stay is long (or short), I definitely recommend this hotel.
