  We stayed here for two nights (25/26 April) as part of a tour of China organised through Saga. As a result of flight times, our group arrived at the hotel quite early, but we were made welcome and comfortable whilst the rooms were prepared. Our room was fine, being comfortable and adequate for our needs - the free wi-fi was fast enough for light browsing - and we enjoyed two good night’s sleep.
  We ate one dinner and breakfast at the hotel and found the choice and quiality to be fine. We also had a packed breakfast prepared for us on our departure day (for an early flight), which was presented in a superb box - a nice touch.
  All the staff we met were friendly and helpful and - despite this being a short visit - we enjoyed our time here.

  We finished our marvellous (Trailfinders Dublin) trip to China with 3 days in this large and well laid out hotel.
  
  In general we were very pleased. The location is fabulous and first impressions when you see the lobby, having driven up the tree lined roads in the French quarter are very positive. George the Bell man gave us a hearty welcome as he enquired about our Irish roots. Our Trailfinders guide assisted us with check in which went very smoothly but unfortunately the young reception clerk was non engaging, non smiling and not very welcoming. She did not really address us or deal with the 1 or 2 queries that we had until our guide stepped in and spoke to her in Chinese.
  
  We had a very nice bright room, a decent size, unusual shape but good views from the 17th floor. We had everything we needed.
  
  Lifts were busy even though there were 6 of them and you may find yourself waiting for a few minutes to get one, especially when heading back downstairs.
  
  We did not eat evening meals there but had 3 breakfasts and they were by far the best breakfasts we had in China.Superb choice in a spacious comfortable dining room and most importantly, delicious.
  The first morning after checking in on the restaurant desk the young girl on duty 'ordered' us to a table. I made it known that I did not like her tone and she then walked us to a table, pointed her finger at it and left us. I wonder was she related to my young earlier friend at reception.
  
  Anyway they were the negatives.To balance that we dealt with other hotel staff who could not have been more helpful such as the receptionist who organised a take away breakfast box on the morning of our departure to the airport at 4am, another reception gentlemen who greatly assisted us as we had a problem in the business centre printing our boarding passes, a very friendly and helpful lady supervisor in the restaurant who always had a smile and a hello for you everytime she passed you by and the maintainance chap who called to our room to fix a small problem with the air conditioning and then refused to take a tip.
  
  The location across the street from the subway is very convenient.
  
  All in all a good hotel to select for your stay in Shanghai in a very nice part of the city.
  
  The hotel management just need to ensure that all staff are on message that they must be pleasant and helpful to their guests who after all are keeping them in a job. Therefore a 3 star rather than a 4 star rating from us.
  
  However we would stay here again.

  There are nicer hotels in Shanghai but none beats the combination of history, location and character of the Jin Jiang hotel. I recently stayed there for a week and found the room to be roomy, the bed to be comfortable, the bathroom to be clean and well equipped. Below are some areas that are less than 5-star quality: the lobby is impressive looking but there are no sitting area for guests to gather and the receptionists can be a bit more helpful. Also, there is no hotel name cards for guests to use with taxi drivers.

  The hotel has been newly renovated and they did a great job. The attention to details, and the amenities are very well executed. There are several very good restaurants there which offer very decent Shanghai cuisine and upper scale settings. Worth to stay there again.
