Geared up for Chinese Market, not much English spoken
4589712j
Leeds, United Kingdom | Oct 10, 2025Ok but the reception staff struggle to speak English. We found the hotel quite bland. Mainly geared for the Chinese market. The room was small but clean, could not get the Air Conditioning to function correctly.
Great location for the bund and fair pricing for what we had, not very inspiring or exciting. -
Besides the location, there's nothing special about it
The_Dutch_Nomad
Dubai, United Arab Emirates | Oct 2, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe hotel is right around the corner of the Bund, the must-see area in Shanghai. But the location in really the only good thing I can think of. The room was not cleaned well and the floor looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in weeks! The shower curtain was moldy, the room and towels smelt like cigarette smoke...
We had booked a larger room for 4 people hoping we would get two double beds. Instead we came in to find two beds big enough for 1 person each, so we asked for a 3rd. The third bed was set up (it was rock hard) and two of us ended up sharing one bed which was manageable. But we only got 3 towels each time because the cleaners only counted 3 beds. When we asked for a 4th towel they simply refused to give us one.
Lastly, the staff hardly speaks english so be prepared to have some trouble with asking for what you need. -

Dubai, United Arab Emirates | Sep 26, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI had requested the hotel for a pick up from the train station when my family and I arrived from Hong Kong. To be honest, I sent the request less than 48 hours before arriving in Shanghai, but a business hotel should be prepared for "requests being made 36 hours prior to arrival". No pick up was there, so we took a taxi who overcharged us, we found out later. Upon arrival in the hotel, staff appeared nice, bit did not speak one word of English. For a business hotel in the most popular area of Shanghai this is unusual, I think. The room size was ok but had only two beds which were just big enough for one person, definitely nor big enough for all four of us. This clearly did not match with the reservation we made online, which was for a family room. Luckily the hotel managed to add one bed. We had to ask for more than the two towels available in the room. The first day this worked out fine, but the second day, the cleaning lady refused to give four towels, because there were only three beds in the room :-). The safe in the room did not work and if it would work it would not be a very safe place to keep our belongings, since one could easily lift it up and take it out of the room. The free wifi hardly worked. For a 4 star hotel I expected much more. Upon check out the hotel staff was prepared to store our luggage for a while and ordered us a taxi to the airport.

For chinese guests only, but very close to the Bund
BigBerend
Stockholm, Sweden | Sep 15, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe upside:
- It is very close to the Bund! Only 2 blocks or a 5mins walk.
- The rooms are clean and spacious
The downside:
- NOBODY speaks English, Chinese only!
- They won´t call you a taxi
- no WiFi on rooms!
- public WiFi is very poor or unavailable (several guests, days, devices!!)
- Sign at elevator says "If elevator is too slow, feel free to use stairs!" (Never seen anything like that before ...!)
- "Business Center" eventhough advertised not existing
Bottomline: If you speak Chinese or just look for a hotel close to the Bund without any service, you can pick it.
Btw.: Shanghai Grandmas Restaurant right at the corner serves great food, top choice, quality, low price and always full of expats and locals! -

Stockholm County, Sweden | Jul 26, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis hotel is good for its location but nothing else. Bad service, bad English, horror story lightning in the whole hotel, uncomfortable beds but big rooms and great location!! If I would go to Shanghai again with the same budget I would stay at this hotel.
