Best value Shanghai hotel
Fionna77
Aug 20, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesYangtze Boutique is unbelievable value, beautiful Art Deco building, very close to the main shopping street. Huge rooms with large bathrooms and baths big enough to swim in ! Really fantastic place with helpful staff , we needed an extra rollaway for 1 night when our 23 year old daughter joined us and was done with no problem & upgraded our room with an extra charge that was nominal for the extra bed.

Superb Art Deco hotel across the street from People's Square
mrolleig
Williamstown | Aug 14, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe lobby and rooms have a consistent and updated Art Deco motif. The rooms are especially large for a hotel in a metropolis. Our room had a giant bathtub in addition to the shower. The rooms are excellently shielded from street noise. The hotel wifi works very well. The location is literally a block from the People's Square metro stop and 3 blocks from Nanjing road (a major shopping street/pedestrian thoroughfare).
The breakfast offers extensive options, although many will probably not be terribly appetizing. I suggest the omelettes made to order, fresh fruit, and fresh-squeezed OJ. There are better options for dumplings and pastries throughout Shanghai. The easiest and cheaper food options are the basement food court of the Raffles Mall, which is across the street.
The staff is attentive and very willing to help, although only a few speak competent English. If you ask, they will get your laundry done outside the hotel at a much cheaper rate than using the in-room service (roughly 75% cheaper). During summer, be sure to leave a key in the room slot to power the AC while you are out. There is a second AC unit in the bathroom. I suggest leaving both on if you want it cold on your return.
I have stayed at several nice hotels in Shanghai, and this was by far the best. We will stay here again on our next visit., Manager at The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, responded to this reviewDear mrolleig,

Adams, Massachusetts | Aug 10, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe smell of roses greets you as you walk into this beautiful hotel. I stayed at the Yangtze Hotel for seven days and was never disappointed. The staff is extremely friendly and went out of their way to help us and were able to answer all of our questions. The rooms are roomy, extremely clean, and comfortable. Our bathroom had a wonderful soaking tub and separate shower. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is down the street from the People's Square metro stop, so it was easy to get around town. Also near the hotel is Nanjing road, which has wonderful shopping, restaurants, and people-watching. The Shanghai Museum, People's Square park, History Museum and other sights are walking distance from this hotel. I would definitely stay here again!

Hong Kong, China | Aug 1, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessGreat location of the hotel next to People's park metro station and Nanjing walking street (5 mins walk). A wide range of food options is available in the area as well. The rooms are nice and clean. The pleasant old-Shanghai themed music that welcomes you to the room is particularly memorable and helps you to indulge into the atmosphere of the hotel and the great history of the city.

Additional Information about Yangtze Boutique Hotel Shanghai

In the movie “Somewhere in Time”, a time-honored hotel took the hero back to 70 years ago and experienced really romantic love with the heroine. Nowadays, in the center of Shanghai with endless flow of people, there is a place that could take you back to the 1930s to appreciate the golden age of Shanghai. That is The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai. The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, an Art Deco masterpiece infused with gold age of Shanghai, owns the superior geographical position. Located in the People’s Square, centre of Shanghai, the hotel enjoys convenient access to all parts of the city with the Shanghai Metro Lines 1/2/8 less than 30 meters from the hotel. Moreover, the hotel is bordered by major cultural and entertainment highlights within walking distance, such as Nanjing Pedestrian Road, People's Park, the Raffles City, the Shanghai Museum, and the Shanghai Grand Theatre. This hotel attracts guests with its private and graceful environment instead of the splendid and magnificent impression. The stained glass dome looks so gorgeous with carved staircase winding up. The candlelit crystal lighting collocates with palatial valance creating the elegant and sumptuous atmosphere. The unique collections displayed on the wall of guest room floor corridors, such as jewelry boxes, manual-shaving-hair tools, ancient door latch, traditional pipes, ladies’ hand bags, Hawksbill needles, cookie boxes, etc, all tell guests the history of Shanghai. Entering each room, the song “ Rose, Rose, I love you” reminds each guest of the prosperity of the old Shanghai with its sweet voice and nostalgia melody. Standing on the guest room private balcony, you could feel the quick pace of the modern city while retrospect the past good times at the same time.Yangtze Hotel, the predecessor of The Yangtze Boutique Shanghai, opened in 1934, owns 80 years of history. Decorated with lavish art deco style, this hotel was touted as “The Third Largest Hotel in the Far East” by the renowned architect, Li Pan. This hotel used to be a popular social resort gathered many celebrities and movie stars, and it was exactly the birthplace of the most classic and well-known song “Rose, Rose, I love you”. In order to inherit this cultural heritage, Yangtze Boutique reserves this song as the background music in the room, and names one suit of room as “Rose Suite” to be one of the signature of the hotel, which becomes the favorites of many guests. Over the past 70 years, the Yangtze Hotel witnessed the ups and downs of Shanghai. In mid 2009, the Yangtze Hotel was renovated gorgeously and re-emerged in a great sumptuous way, reserving the classic Art Deco design style while mixing the 1930s old Shanghai style together. Just like the time flying back, this hotel guides guests back to the glamorous and extravagant life in old Shanghai with great charm and elegant demeanor.
