Privacy and Seclusion but Hotel is Substandard
Hotlotus
Aug 16, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe stayed at the St. Regis Sanya's Royal Villa for 5 days at 11553 RMB ($1700) a night. This is their second best room, only less than the Presidential Villa.
The first impression was terrible. The staff spoke little to none English, which gave us an indication of what to expect - this might be a substandard locally managed hotel. The hotel entrance hall was designed in bad taste of a southeast Asian influence unfortunately executed with inferior materials. The gigantic honey colored columns and brown arches were simply vulgar. Our residence was furnished with poorly designed, cheaply made, ill maintained furniture. There was no class nor elegance. Our guests promptly found 2 cockroaches in their room. Their sitting room mirror was so moldy you couldn't see reflection. There are dangerously loose and missing flooring in the backyard near the pool. The lotus pond was completely dry with no flowers whatsoever, only rocks.
But things start to improve after the first day. The butler Kevin was accommodating and tried hard to follow the motto "your wish is my command". He got us the float, blue tooth speaker and late check out time as we requested.
The residence has a full view of the sea, is big with a full size swimming pool (about 1200 sf) and lush tropical garden. The beach is almost private to us. It was secluded and separated from other guests. The onyx and travertine used in the bathroom are beautiful. Housekeeping was attentive and provided ample supplies. Breakfast was in Driftwood, which was exclusive to villa guests. Although the same breakfast got mundane, the privacy and freedom of ease more than made up for that. Free laundry service for Villa guests was pleasantly discreet.
Overall, we think staying at the Villa was a wise decision. As Sanya really doesn't have much to offer, its beach is nothing compared to Maldives, so it is essential that you stay in a room that provides sanctuary. Another thing to take note is that the hotel is not on the main hotel drag, it takes a car to go to the outside restaurants and shops. Staying at Royal Villa also means you need the hotel golf cart to take you to the lobby before hiring a car to go out. Privacy comes with the cost of convenience.
I hope the real St. Regis takes note of all the negative feed backs. In order to uphold your reputation, you must do things the St. Regis standard, no matter where you are. At the minimum fix the damage in the room and replace the scratched furniture. And the $715/person price tag (4999 RMB) for in-house BBQ is simply outrageous. You aren't exactly offering Russian caviar on that menu.St_Regis_Sanya, General Manager at The St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort, responded to this reviewDear ‘Hotlotus’,

Great stay!

Hong Kong, China | Aug 13, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyTransport: 30-minute taxi ride from airport, cost around 120RMB. We couldn't take hotel shuttle because of our flight schedule. Would be good to have shuttle service at more times during the day/night.
Room: TV was bit small for viewing when lying in bed, but only because the room was so big and spacious! The garden-facing balcony had comfortable chairs perfect for afternoon naps. Reasonably clean. Had all the baby stuff we needed.
Food: Burger and dandan noodles were great at Social, but pasta wasn't as good. Kids menu had enough variety. Ming Xuan had good Chinese food. Driftwood had the best atmosphere; we had paella outdoors. Breakfast and dinner buffet were good, especially the satays and dumplings. In-room dining was convenient, but food often arrived lukewarm.
Amenities: Pools were kid-friendly. Beach was nice and clean. Appreciate the lifeguards for watching attentively for people's safety on many occasions. Kid liked the bouncy castle set up in the conference hall. Gym had the basics you'll need for holiday but not conveniently accessible - the only available route from room to gym was a long detour around the lobby area.
Service: Online communication was a bit confusing, as 3 different butlers replied at different times to answer the same question. A few servers at Social repeatedly needed reminders to provide what we requested (new staff I assume). Other than that, pretty good service overall. Special thanks to 吉日新 (Alan?) from Social for his hospitality; Neil from Social for putting in special order for sweet potato for baby's dinner, remembered us, and took the initiative to personally bring us sweet potato the next morning at breakfast; Garrett Tan for always making us feel welcomed at Ming Xuan; and housekeeper lady in the West Wing (didn't catch her name) for taking the initative to ask for a baby carriage on our behalf. The lounge/restaurant musicians - Soul Inspiration - were a treat to the ears!St_Regis_Sanya, General Manager at The St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort, responded to this reviewDear 'Rickie H',

An enjoyable stay at St Regis
Beebee12345678
Hong Kong, China | Jul 26, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe brought our two kids aged 11 and 13 to Sanya and stayed four nights at St Regis. The room was spacious for four people. The beds were okay and the bathroom was enormous. Our room was facing the dock, with a view of the inner side of the hotel, a large amount of greenery. The telephone shortcuts doesn’t seem to work and the WiFi was slow.
The staff there were very friendly. We appreciate very much their courtesy service. April who had been answering our emails greeted us on our arrival . Our butler, Nicky was cheerful and responded to our needs quickly and accurately.
Except for the lounge at the lobby, staff from other catering are more attentive. We first visited the Social restaurant. Some food was not hot enough, such as the small, warm dish of spaghetti and the price was rather expensive. The other two restaurants were much better. Especially the one named Driftwood which serves western food. The waiters and chefs were all very helpful and friendly. Chef Jason warmly introduced us the menu, he even cooked us a Carbonara Spaghetti for our kids which was not in the menu. It was exceptionally delicious -according to the kids- exactly their cup of tea. Upon the recommendation of Jason, we had steak, lamb chop, oysters and the seafood risotto, which are all freshly made, steamy and delicious. I particularly like the wagyu steak, juicy and not bloody. We enjoyed very much the hospitality and company of Jason and Frank that we spent three evenings there. It would be great if they add more variety to the menu. Frank also provided us with some useful travel advice.
The weather was bad during the first few days of our stay, so we got to experience the facilities very thoroughly. The spa was great. The lady massaged me from head to toe, very comfortable. The swimming pools were great, it's not too crowded, it's very enjoyable. They've got water slides, bubbles so kids were entertained too. The gym's facilities were new and comprehensive. The mini theatre was quite grand, we watched a movie and the 3D quality was comparatively great. The seats were comfortable too.
It was sunny on our last day, thankfully. We walked along the private beach of the hotel. The scenery was beyond beautiful. The wind was blowing so it wasn't too hot. We took a bunch of memorable photos.
All in all, the hotel facilities were clean and well maintained, the staff were friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time at St Regis, it's a fantastic experience.

Amazing Service

Jul 12, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelBeing an SPG Platinum member, I received a complimentary upgrade to a garden view suite. The guest services manager, Tatyana, was very helpful even before my arrival by making arrangements to pick me up from another resort. She also comped me high tea service which was unexpected and made me feel very welcomed. They also gave me access to a separate restaurant for my complimentary breakfast. The restaurant manager Michael went above and beyond making feel special and offered special dishes off a menu instead of going to the buffet. That included a soft boiled egg topped w/Beluga caviar and pan seared foie gras. WOW! Overall, the entire staff make their guests feel like VIPs and you can really tell they take first class service very seriously.
