Great Property, Amazing Beach
Kshitij2003
Hong Kong, China | Jan 1, 2026 | Trip type: FamilyWe stayed here for one night as a part of our Sanya trip and were impressed with the property which is very huge and bang on the Haitang bay with its own private beach. The location is a bit far from the Sanya airport and it took us close to an hour to reach the hotel. The check in was smooth and pleasant. We were greeted with a warm smile and were given a welcome drink and cold towels. The staff gave our 2 kids small marriott souvenirs which was a nice touch!! The room itself was quite spacious with a great view of the sea and the amenities were typical Renaissance. The twins beds were very comfortable and we were able to sleep well. The wi-fi in the room was spotty but worked. What makes this hotel special is the wonderful beach which is very clean and we truly had a great time there. The property has several places to relax (with hanging beds) where you can read while enjoying the sea view. The staff was superb taking care of all our needs. The swimming pool was nice though had lots of insects so need to be careful of insect bites. The washrooms around the pool area though were dirty and not properly maintained (something for the hotel to improve). We ate at the hotel restaurant at the lobby (since no options close to the hotel) and the staff there went out of their way to get us good vegetarian meal which was highly appreciated. The same gesture was repeated at the breakfast buffet where the chef specially prepared a vegetarian dish for us since the buffet otherwise did not have many vegetarian options. Kudos to the hotel staff!! Overall a nice stay and we will return!

Very Good Value
TheBeijingDeva
Beijing, China | Dec 25, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe had initially booked a club room at the Sofitel for our trip to Sanya but ended up taking the cheaper option of this hotel after my father in law decided to tag along and double our expenses.... Anyway I digress.
The hotel and grounds are extremely impressive and kept in good condition, the beach is very close to the hotel unlike some other resorts.
We stayed in a lagoon access room which was extremely spacious and in good condition. Large bath and nice shower, comfy bed. Unfortunately the weather in Sanya this time of year is not be best (we saw about a day and a half of sun in ten days) so the pools are bitterly cold and it is not really possible to swim. It is a shame given the amount of different pool sections around the resort that at least one could not be heated to allow for winter swimming.
Staff here generally excellent and very friendly though the restaurant seemes understaffed for breakfast (which in itself I would give about 3/5) but most hotels of this nature resemble feeding time at the zoo during breakfast - mass catering for mass tourism so it is just a grin and bear it scenario.
The food outside of breakfast was generally very good. We enjoyed meals at the Starfish market and bar of both western and Chinese nature. One area where the Ren really gets huge amount of praise from myself is that It doesn't attempt to price gouge customers like most hotels that have 'captive' guests.
Veg hot pot buffet was exceptional value at 108rmb (beer and soft drinks included) with additional meat dishes costing around 40rmb, which is generally high street prices. A bottle of wine at the bar was 148rmb. There were many offers about if you were a Marriot reward member but some stated 'elite' reward member and this sometimes got a bit confusing, some clarity might work well in this area. 10rmb for mini bar drinks also which is unheard of really.
Spa was nice with a decent Massage, 480rmb for one hour is again exceptional value in this sort of resort.
Kids club really nice and invaluable given the weather, kids pools looked good fun though sadly not possible to use given the cold weather.
Overall this is a great hotel and the issues encountered would gave been encountered at any resort in Sanya. I would definitely visit in summer in order to fully utilise the resort's potential.RenaissanceSanya, Director of Operations at Renaissance Sanya Resort & Spa, responded to this reviewDear TheBeijingDiva

Excellent Service
jsingap0re
Singapore, Singapore | Dec 12, 2025 | Trip type: Coupleswe'd recently encountered the hotel through a friend who'd stayed there before. our requirements were quite simple. have a room that enables us to walk to the beach (without crossing any street, etc) and got a room with a beautiful view, metres from the beach.
our trip took us from Haikou, and the hotel had kindly offered to get our train tickets (which we later found out was a real pain for anybody trying to get them from outside China). we actually later later found out that the tickets were actually bought off a concierge personnel's personal account (i guess wechat).
anyway, the train station in Haikou was easy to navigate and we queued and got our tickets promptly. give yourself plenty of time to do this if you've never done it before as the ticket office tend to be very crowded and at times chaotic. boarding time is actually about 15 mins before departure, add in q-ing time at the ticket office and you'll need at least an hour. needless to say there will be lines everywhere from ticket office, ticket presentation, to boarding so depending on the time of the day or season, you may need more than an hour.
the hotel picked us up at lingshui train station (1 stop before sanya) when we arrived and it was about a 30 min ride.
from the time we arrived until the day we departed, staff at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating and i'd the impression that chinese hotel guests generally dont interact that much with the staff other than to ask them for things. we met a whole lot of interns who were working about 6 months before they go back to their respective U to continue their studies.
BEACH
the beach is beautiful although it was a little chilly when the wind blows. Haitang bay where the hotel is on is a rather large bay and the ferocity of the waves doesn't really tolerate a lot of swimmers. tanning is great as it was sunny and cool, the 6 days we were there.
F&B
buffet breakfast at the main restaurant tend to be a little chaotic unless you get there before 0830. a good variety of chinese food and some interesting provincial flavours were featured.
the lobby lounge is great for afternoon tea, and evening drinks with a 2 pcs filipino band playing at night.
most nights we were at the starfish restaurant which had a great deal for semi buffet hotpot. Y108 for free flow beer (which admittedly you wont drink that much of), salad, veg and fruits. try the blue shelled clams and sliced beef. of the 4 nights at the buffet, we only managed to get 1 night at the restaurant when they were not booked for groups. actually we preferred the starfish bar for the buffet as the 2 pc band was performing 1900 at the bar before they move on to the lobby lounge.
it was our first time in sanya and certainly not our last.RenaissanceSanya, Director of Operations at Renaissance Sanya Resort & Spa, responded to this reviewDear Mr. jsingap0re
