rather low end 5 star hotel
Shiruba84
Guangzhou, China | Jun 7, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesFirst thing, we got an upgrade to a suite which was very good, but we had a bad surprise when we entered the room. It was on the ground floor and was VERY humid giving the room a not so pleasing smell so we asked to change room. We called the customer service for that purpose (in Chinese) and they said they will handle our request. 20 minutes later still no news so we walked back to the front desk (quite a long walk) and we got changed to another room on the 7th floor that was a lot better even though still humid, but acceptable.
Hotel design is very nice, lobby is great but again, humidity is a real problem here as many walls in the alleys are full of mushrooms which is rather surprising for a 5 star hotel. Also there was no air conditioner in the elevators.
I am not really picky as never stay in 5 star hotels, but I've seen better 3* hotels or guest houses in other placed that were less expensive.
Guest in this hotel are also not helping the experience as they are rather normal middle-class chinese with normal chinese behaviour (loud, looking over shoulder to see how much you have in your wallet, ect).
I would give an excellent mark if it wasn't a 5 star hotel, but I was expecting more. Value for money is average. -
Impressive Style

Bangkok, Thailand | Apr 19, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessAt the very first step here, it's remind me of "The Aladdin and the Magic Lamp". I'm really like its Stunning exterior and landscape design with friendly Doorman in Aladdin costume. My lakeside room is very far from the lobby, highly likely to get lost but worth for. One problem is the internet connection even it has a free wifi service.

Secluded pleasures

Apr 7, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayPicturesque environment, adequate culinary offerings, spacious rooms and courteous service all helped to make our recent visit here most enjoyable.
19 of us were checked in efficiently around 6pm. We appreciate every thoughtful amenities
provided in our room, including USB connectors to the TV set which allowed us to watch pre-recorded programs form home. Evening breeze accompanied the fountain show on the lake at 8pm. Breakfast selections were adequate but service lagged a little due to the holiday crowd.
We all will be more than happy to return on our next holiday to Qingyuan. -
Management has given up on a beautiful hotel

Guangzhou, China | Oct 4, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesMy wife and I normally have blind faith in any Starwood Property, and that is our first choice for any business trip or holiday we take. This hotel simply is not a Sheraton property, it looks like somewhere someone has put in a lot of effort to make a good hotel but then simply forgot about it.
For anyone planning to come to this hotel and can't speak Chinese strictly do not come at any cost. To give a few examples:
1) Guest Service: Needs to be called at least 3 times before they pick. The worst case was I had to call 5 Times and they still did not pick up.
2) If they actually picked up the phone, their basic english language skills was extremely poor and they didn't understand basic words like salt, peppper, Beef and prawns (Something my wife is allergic to). Thank god I knew my numbers in Chinese to tell them the page number my order was from.
3) Their Italian restaurant was closed for the duration of my stay - no idea why.
4) They had breakfast with the cleanliness of a 2 star hotel and service of 1 star. Selection was average and when I arrived at 930, half the stuff was finished. I asked for Bacon, they told me it was over and that I should have come earlier. (Breakfast ended at 10.30am.)
5) They advertised for hot springs but when asked - firstly their english speaking manager didn't understand the word Hot Spring, I had to show a picture of the advertisement and he told me to get there I had to arrange a Taxi to go about 30-40 min and for return need to arrange myself.
6) As a platinum Member, I had access to club lounge which only opens at 5 (90% properties I have been to open at 4. They Only had 1 staff who half the time not there, very limited selection of food and half of which was over by 6.
There were many many more aspects that I don't expect to see from a 5 star hotel, that too a Starwood property.
It is such a shame that an extremely beautiful hotel with an amazing Spa had such appalling service. After this, I will never blindly book a Starwood property, like I always do. -
Worst ever

Jun 21, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThe hotel itself is good, but facilities around and service is too bad.
We arrived at 16:30, still need to wait for room, they asked me to add RMB200 to upgrade, after I refused, they gave it free.
Dinner time, the all day dining is full of people but the buffet is empty, hard to find a service staff. We went to Chinese restaurant instead, stand at the door and five mins past we even did not find any staff. Italian restaurant is the last to try, we were so happy because there has only 3 table guests, and service staff welcomed us to choose a table. By sitting down for 10 mins, no one was coming, I waved my hand two times, no one. Until we left, the service staff were just wondering we left but never offer even a menu!
Went back room and ordered room service around 20:30, was told a pizza and a burger will take 50 mins, fine. Open TV, remote is broken, call guest service for 20 mins no answering. Call concierge instead, been noticed, 20 mins later nothing happened. Call guest service again, 20 mins later nothing... Call again, and told her I will ask for duty manager next time, the answer is not sorry but ok. Nothing happened.
Our food was here at this time, French fried was black and hard, burger was over cooked, salami pizza with very small sliced salami I guess 3 pieces for the whole pizza, and over cooked.
Remote was here during dinner, the service staff can not open the battery cover and asked to take it back to fix. I am so afraid to wait other one hour and opened it for her, she changed the battery and it worked well.
There is not much facilities around, only one restaurant outside the hotel by walking distance and not seems good. The hotel has only 300 more rooms with 3 big restaurant, I wonder why they can not provide the service. Worst Starwood hotel I ever stayed!
