Central location for a good price
SouthernMedic06
Charleston, South Carolina | May 18, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe Grand Hotel was chosen for our group when travelling. The check-in was very convenient and the staff was fluent in English. The lobby was outfitted with a currency exchange machine which was easy to use. The lobby also had a gift/lobby shop which was well stocked with beverages and souvenirs.
The room was well appointed, clean and very nice. The bathroom was clean, and had a very nice shower and a separate tub. I was intrigued by the toilet, which was outfitted with a heated seat and built-in bidet. That seat gets really hot, but was able to be turned down/off. The view was spectacular(21st floor), and was on the back side of the hotel. Noise was never a problem, although I was on the 21st floor, so I can speak for lower level rooms.
Within a 5-10 minute walk, there were many options for food. There was a hidden gem across the street which I did not find until near the end of my trip. It was a German Biergarten, the name is Oktoberfest. The food and drink were reasonable and top-notch. Also, a bar/restaurant located two buildings down, called Vie Chat which had a nice Happy Hour with drink and food specials. We frequented this place and were not disappointed. The hotel had a great breakfast which was worth the cost. We did not, however, feel the price was right for dinner. The options in the area were of a better quality and for more reasonable costs.
Overall, this was a great hotel, great location and I would go back again. -
Very Chinese Brand Hotel

New York City, New York | Apr 21, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed here a week for work and the English of the staff was very little or not at all. Not sure of the other reviews I read on TA, maybe they got lucky with a better staff during their stay. I also travel to China frequently and know the hotels well there.
The room was old and dark and Chinese modern with black drapery. Stains on the carpet and pillow cases, light out in foyer and bidet hardly worked. No snacks in the mini bar. But there is a shop in the lobby with overpriced snacks if you are too tired to go out.
Only one English news channel and HBO.
Breakfast buffet was limited for Western options and the first 2 days I tried to order an omelet at the egg station without success. No one seemed to know the English word for omelet. Finally gave up and had fried eggs the rest of the week.
Each time I tried to order room service they had to send a staff member to my door so I could point to the menu to what I wanted. Food was not great in the hotel, I would recommend going next door to a Western cafe on the corner, or down the street by the hospital and the main road a 10 minute walk down, there you will find Western food options if you prefer that.
Gym is small but decent for what you need while traveling. The roof 'garden' could use a renovation. I did not have time to try the spa.
I had an early flight and there was not an attendant to help with luggage or get a taxi. You have to go into the street and down the block with your luggage at 6am to find one.
Overall, it is fine and the staff seemed nice. However, on my next visit I will request to stay in the Sofitel or Westin. But to each there own, it is all your personal level of comfort. -
Superb

Los Angeles, California | Feb 16, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelOne of the better places I've stayed. The helpful and highly competent staff stand out, as well as the facility itself. The buffet breakfast was pretty good but a bit limited. I couldn't figure out the heat, though and was thankful I could turn it off and open the window to cool down my room. Otherwise, it'd stay at 23-24 all night, too warm for my sleep.

Clean, comfortable and a great dinner buffet

London, United Kingdom | Dec 19, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI only stayed one night but was impressed by the staff who spoke good English and were impeccably polite and attentive. The room was spacious and clean, if a little quaint. Free wifi in the bedroom was easy and provided a good connection. The dinner buffet was great value and very tasty. Would thoroughly recommend.

I would stay here again
Markogilvienz
Christchurch, New Zealand | Dec 9, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayI've been to China a few times, and this is a great hotel.
Critical things for me when staying in China, which this hotel meets:
- the staff speak good English and are very helpful;
- the hotel is very clean and tidy even by western standards (I've stayed in some that aren't, and it makes me nervous)
- good breakfast available in the hotel
- there is good chinese and western food within walking distance. In fact about 200m walk away are two great little western-style restaurant / bars, one owned and run by an Aussie and showing all the Aussie and Kiwi rubgy they can get. (Come out the hotel front door, turn left, at the first intersection turn left again, and you'll see it about 50m up the road on the left).
If you're in Nanjing for serious shopping, the shops are not particularly close by, maybe a 15 minute walk to "good shopping". But this is a very short taxi ride away.
I'd recommend taking a few hours to walk around and explore the surroundings. It's an interesting part of town, there's lots to see, and feels quite safe. Also, if you're in town for more than a couple of day's I recommend getting to know the underground trains. They're extremely efficient. The nearest underground station is about a 10 minute walk away.
Although its not walkable (Nanjing is a huge city) its a cheap taxi ride to all the local sites, including the city wall, the temples, the mountain, etc. The hotel staff will help with communicating with taxi drivers.
