Friendly staff but scruffy rooms
granite_girl
Bristol, United Kingdom | Jul 23, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessIt's hard for me to rank this hotel as it was my first visit to China so I am not sure of the standard for this area or for their star ratings. However, as other reviewers noted, the room was dated (80s style) and quite rough around the edges. The room was quite dirty - very stained carpet with hairs on it and bug traps stashed under the furniture. Bathroom was reasonably clean and functional and the bed was reasonably comfortable. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The view onto the lake was nice and I had a couple of nice runs around the trails on the grounds. The breakfast buffet was massive with a combination of Chinese and western items. Had a nice lunch in the restaurant upstairs. I was there for a conference and the room was booked and paid for by the conference so I can't comment on the value for the price.

Beautiful Setting

Melbourne, Australia | Oct 28, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessGreat place to stay, only issue is that the WIFI is not available to foreign phones. Beautiful lake and gardens, so close to many attractions. Very quiet, you would not think your in such a large city.

superb place to stay

hawaii | Sep 26, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed here for two nights as part of a meeting with staff from the Nanjing mayor's office. I found the hotel staff friendly, efficient and helpful. Checking in was quick and painless. The food in the restaurant was good and plentiful. I had a room that directly overlooked the lake, which made for a peaceful setting. I only wish that I had had more time to do some exploring.
No complaints. -
"Poor" might be generous for this dirty hotel

London, United Kingdom | May 20, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessWhile this property is dubbed as luxury it most certainly isn't. My room had a moldy shower mat, carpet with dust and hair along the perimeter (never been edged or thoroughly vacuumed) and the walls of the bathroom weren't cleaned (I'll spare you the gory details). No safe or wifi in the rooms. The front desk staff seemed flustered and inefficient when checking me in and out. The breakfast buffet was poor quality. The plus is that it's in a beautiful setting on a lake with a mountain backdrop. There are also running/hiking paths. Note that Mosquitos are rampant in the evenings. I noticed while departing that there was a shiny new Sofitel right nearby. I highly recommend considering other options before the Purple Palace (by the way, it's neither purple, nor a palace).
