  The hotel itself was nice and in a good area. Staff were mostly helpful. Bit rude/ blunt on check in. We ended up with a smoking room somehow. We didn't ask for but it didn't smell too bad so we went along with it.
  The main problem we had was the deposit. It was more than the cost of the room! Secondly when we checked out I was guaranteed by the person who checked us out that they would be refunding the difference of the deposit not charging us as well. Which was wrong. Not a massive deal except a week later no deposit! Needed that money to pay for another hotel. Led to a very stressful end of holiday! Contacted holiday in. They were in touch with the hotel and promised a swift response. But that was three days ago!
  I wish I had been informed of the deposit before the trip. I would of planned for it. It was pretty common in all the hotels we stayed in. But there was never any word of it before we left.
  I have seen on here lots of people have had problems with holiday inn and deposits. As nice as the hotel was, this is enough to put me
  off using them again. Well have to see how they handle it from here.

  I have stayed at this hotel on several occasions it has a fantastic location very convenient for everything and it is attached to a large shopping mall. The rooms are adequate well furnished and with good internet access. The breakfast buffet is outstanding with a wide and varied choice.

  Aqua City is a shopping mall with some silly water features. The Holiday Inn butts onto it and with the great nightlife in this area its a very good choice.
  Rooms are clean, breakfast is fine, pool is huge and the gym is very well equipped (but not that large).
  Really enjoyed just walking around the neighbourhood at night.... the place had a great buzz.
  It is convenient distance to all the sights.
  Staff English was not the best, but I cannot complain.

  I was on a long business trip in Shanghai and decided to hop out to Nanjing for a short weekend getaway.
  There is a requirement by the Chinese government for registering your hotel stay with the authorities that the hotel will submit on your behalf. Passport and visa information was needed. I left my passport in Shanghai.
  I had an ID card from my home country which the staff said was not sufficient to register my stay. While one of the staff was nice enough to offer alternatives and helpful suggestions, another staff was really rude. She butted in, told me in a rude manner that it was a five star establishment and thus can't register me without a passport. She said very insistently, loudly and repeatedly that no hotel in China will accept me without a passport. This was the first time I felt humiliated by a hotel staff. Also her words made me very worried that I had to cancel the vacation and head back to Shanghai if no other hotel will accept my stay as she said.
  Eventually, the more helpful staff helped me recall that I had a scanned copy of my passport in my phone and I used that to check in.
  I am not very good with smells, and didn't realise until some time later that they put me in a smoking room when I requested for a non smoking one. Ended up with a sinus headache. I finally clued in after a while that it was a smoking room, and called to reception to confirm. Normally I would have just let it go if I am just staying one night but I was still irritated from the check in experience. Complained to the manager. She was very apologetic and offered a room change, free breakfast and late check out. The response from the manager was very prompt and apologetic which kind of eased my unhappiness a little. The doorman was very nice and helped me get cabs by using the local app and offered many helpful suggestions.
  While the room itself was great value like hotels in the Holiday Inn chain generally are (well appointed, soft and hard pillow choices, comfortable bed), I have doubts about chosing this hotel again if I find myself in Nanjing again because of the inconsistent service standards.
  After staying in Holiday Inns in New York and Mexico City, I had nothing but praises for the Holiday Inn chain. I was sad that this hotel didn't meet the expected experience.

  We had heard good things about this hotel from another family so we stayed there on our recent adoption trip. I know this could not be the room they were talking about. We paid with points so I think we got the crappy room.
  We walked in and the whole room felt damp-ish and was sort of musty. The worst part was that there was "something" on the floor in front of the toilet. The blinds to the shower area did not work. There was a large area at the end of the bed for our baby girl to play, but I didn't want to put her on the floor.
  The reason that they have three stars by the way is the really outstanding breakfast buffet. Lots of options. I also felt the folks that worked there were nice and polite.
  The lobby is spacious and has some very nice artwork, loved the glass art.
  The hotel is attached to a mall (if you are a shopper.. you will be thrilled) complete with a grocery store. SUPER CONVENIENT. We ran over to grab a few things and we ate there at one of the mall restaurants a few times.
  We did order room service and the food was pretty good.
