• Great and quiet resort for relaxation

  This is indeed a luxurious resort hotel in Xishangbana. It is a bit far from the airport as well as the city centre of Jinghong. The environment is really nice and full of green plantationa. The structures are nicely- built and the whole resort is spacious. The outdoor swimming pool is clean and facing the river while the spas are really great for the ladies. Breakfast starts very early with good choices from Asian to European choices. You must try the local "Suen Wai" ham which is really excellent. There are not much other restaurant choices nearby and you have to stay and eat in the restaurants inside the resort. The resort is very near to the Tropical Botanic Garden which is a 5A tourist spot that is highly recommended to visitors. Overall the staff services here are very good and the rooms are large and clean. Nonetheless, we found it a bit dark both in the great reception lobby as we arrived late in the evening as well as inside the rooms. If you plan to stay in this resort, better allow more time here to relax and use the facilities provided, otherwise it would be a waste if you are in a hurry to just stay here overnight.

  We stayed at Anantara Xishuangbanna as part of a trekking trip through Yunnan.
  The rooms are definitely up to the expected 'Anantara luxury'. They provide all the expected comforts and luxury items.
  The service, if you finally get what you expect / need / want is good.
  The main issue is that most of the staff does not speak enough English to understand a room service order, a request for a taxi, or to explain addition charges for the adopted charity which appear on your bill.
  A telephone conversation is an absolute nightmare and you would be lucky to actually get your request through after doing your story 4 times over. After a while you just tend to settle for second best or go running after stuff yourself.
  The hotel is quite remote and even though the website states that there is a meet and greet at the airport, the service is by no means complementary and actually charged at a steep price of 700 RMB one way (jul 15).
  Main issue is that this is virtually the only way to get there unless you drive.
  Coming from Jinghong, we had to wing it and found that there is a bus going to Menglun bus station, which is 3km from Anantara. The price for a ticket is 21 RMB per person and takes about 1.5 H.
  The nearest little town where you can find a small supermarket is Menglun, 3 km.
  The food options are limited to the 2 available restaurants and room service (which serves the same food). Prices of the buffet breakfast are comparable to 5* hotels in e.g Singapore.
  The infinity pool, a feature carried by many Anantara hotels is probably not quite so impressive due to the contrast with the muddy river and the jacuzzi could really use a clean up.
  

• Good experience with Anantara Xishuangbanna

  Very pretty resort and fantastic spa. But the service needs improvement. The environment is very good but the location is far away from downtown. No way to eat outside the resort unless by car. Eating at the resort is quite expensive.
  

• Beautiful but lacking

  We recently visited Anatara Xishuangbanna for 4 nights. It is a beautiful hotel, but we found it lacking compared to other 5 star hotels we have stayed at.
  The positives:
  The breakfast buffet is excellent - fresh with variety of western and Asian dishes.
  The setting/ grounds are beautiful.
  The staff was very kind - though they were quite short staffed during our stay.
  The Dai BBQ dinner at Lausuo and the Dai/ Thai food at the Dai/ Thai restaurant was quite good.
  The negatives:
  The pool is unheated and on the 4 days we were there, never staffed with any attendants. It looks poorly maintained compared to other resorts (leaves/ insects in the pool) so despite the 90+ degree heat, we did not use the pool more than five minutes.
  The kids club was poorly organized: we scheduled an activity and arrived with no staff present - when we asked about it - the staff at the shop apologized and said that she was the only one staffing both the kids club, teens club and shop and had to close the shop to come do the activity (which we had paid for)
  Restaurant service was very slow: a non alcoholic drink, such as juice, from the bar took well over 20 - 30 minutes to arrive.

  I had a unforgettable experience at Anantara Xishuangbanna Resort&Spa for 2 nights. I was impressed by the exraodinary service, high-class facility, clean environment and comfortable SPA. Love it and will visit again.
