  Nice Hotel in old building in the center of the old town of Lijiang. Warm welcome with tea ,cake an fruit. Very, very nice staff. Comfortable rooms with seats on the balcony hearing the sound of running water. In the morning and afternoon music played on a Chinese harp. Although Lijiang was crowded with Chinese tourists it was nice and quiet in the hotel. Very nice stay !

  The Zen Garden hotel is a beautiful place in the middle of the old town. From there it's really easy to reach all the interesting places of Lijiang.
  The rooms are overlooking a beautiful relaxing garden.
  Our room was quite small and basic but very clean.
  The girl running the hotel is simply amazing. She was there for everything we needed, she welcomed us with tea and cookies, helped us to organize trips, she was really nice and kind.

  The hotel decor was spot on, the rooms were a OK, but the people! The people who worked there made everything perfect. From the lady playing the Chinese instrument in the morning as a breakfast wake up call to the porter who met me on the street and guided me to the hotel, to the AMAZING lady behind the front desk who not only organized my hiking trip to the Tiger Leaping Gorge but also made sure I had breakfast and water packed to take with me. She even set me up with a fellow traveler so I didn't have to hike alone. I will be recommending this hotel to many friends- thank you for the hospitality!

  We arrived into Lijiang without a booking and came across Zen Garden Hotel - The old wooden building had loads of character and the rooms were clean and comfortable with comfy pillows, a TV, hair dryer + bathroom accessories.
  The staff here are fabulous - we dealt with Moo and Yang Zhi Mei - both ladies were helpful, polite and spoke lots of English. Their knowledge about the Ancient Town, the buses to surrounding villages, banks, the markets, where to eat, China Mobile etc was great - thank you ladies you were a pleasure.
  Zen Garden is in a good position near the 2 bridges and a short walk to the Old Wheel and the Square.
  BUT the best thing about this hotel is the staff - the welcome they gave us every time we came *home* from shopping or a tour was greatly appreciated - tea was served with their delicious cookies to relax you ....and there was always a friendly smile to accompany the tea & cookies.
  Some mornings you wake to the soft music in their courtyard - IF I returned to Lijiang, I'd definitely stay here again.
  Thank you for a wonderful stay! (even though we were looking for a Hostel, we were very happy we came across Zen Garden Hotel) and thank you to the man who took out luggage to the Exit once we had checked out.
  .... don't forget to visit the beautiful Black Dragon Lake, which is within walking from Zen Garden.
  .. and don't be surprised when you are charged a fee (I think it was 80yuan) to enter the Old Town (you pay as you enter - this ticket is valid for 7 days and gives you free entry into the Black Dragon Lake area)

  We booked into this hotel for four days and arranged to be picked up at the airport which is a good 30 minutes from Lijiang. Our flight was very late and there was no one to meet us so we were left to fend for ourselves. We spoke no Chinese and no one spoke English. Eventually through sign language we were rescued by a local man who took us in his car for 80 yuan. Old town Lijiang is like a walled town with access only at certain points. Our driver was uncertain where to enter and since there are no cars allowed in the Old Town he volunteered to find out hotel. we trundled up and down narrow, cobble stone streets until eventually we arrived. Make sure you arrange to be picked up and that it is confirmed regardless of the arrival time of your flight or train.
  Check in was smooth and the staff at least spoke some English. They were very friendly and helpful. Our room was on the second floor overlooking the garden below, the mountains in the distance and the city on the hillside. The room itself was very sparse, two beds, a dresser, TV (one English channel) and cupboards. No place to sit. Breakfast was an additional 35 yuan and included eggs, toast and coffee as well as fruit, congee, cereal and yogurt etc. Tea was available at 4:00 with cookies.
  The Zen Garden is more an Inn than a Hotel. There are no elevators and it is totally unsuitable for a person with mobility issues. The small garden and small pools with fish are very attractive. There are lots of stairs but over all this was great experience and the staff really made a difference.
