NOT MEMORABLE
ElizabethSEQ
South East Queensland | Oct 12, 2025Ok I have given it a 3 star rating but with reservations of the pros and cons of this hotel. Firstly we arrived for 5 nights and were given a fairly nice room with a window that had a brick wall 3 feet away. it was not until the second day that I noted on my printed information about the hotel that we were lacking most of the things I actually booked the hotel for i.e fridge, safe, DVD player, delux room, and so on and so forth. I called the Assistant manager and was transferred to a room with view windows and all the trimmings except the DVD player which she said the did not have.
The beds are rock hard, the aircon is turned off between the temps od 16 - 26 deg C and let me tell you that at 26 deg sleeping is not easy. Fortunately it got cold so that was a blessing.
The things that really irritated me were: very few speak ANY English, there is nothing about tours, no maps, no help and the tour information person was only there on one occasion but I would bet she didn't speak English anyway. You have your CC swiped on arrival and a deposit taken of 200 yuan. However what they do not tell you is that when you have spent that 200 yuan you have to pay cash for room service etc which defeats the purpose of having swiped your credit card or actually having a credit card. I had a very heated exchange over my second room service meal when asked to pay cash for it because the previous night I had used up my 200 yuan. I won the argument but did not spend any more money at that hotel .
The room service staff were very nice and helpful and I would give them 5 stars BUT this hotel has a long way to go to be acceptable for Westerners. It is not in a particularly nice area though its convenient to busses and trains - that is if you have any idea where either of those transportation methods go.
If you want to go to Kunming do ALL of your research before you get to China because there will be no information when you are there and of course you cannot use Google when there. Also note that the Stone Forest is about 170 klms away so its a long bus ride and it costs about 170 yuan to get into the forest when you get there. I didn't get to go because of bad weather and rain so I cannot review it at all.
Kunming itself has a lot of growing to get up to the standard of other Chinese cities and hotel staff need quite a bit of work as well, particularly in the help and information department. -
1 night stay, great buffet breakfast

Auckland, New Zealand | Oct 9, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyOur family of 2 adults, 2 children (age 11) stayed 1 night here as an Stopover between Beijing and Dali.
We arrived late (around 10pm), and found a prob with our booking done through Expedia! Please be aware that when booking hotels in China, we have found booking.com to be the best, rather than Expedia. Both times we booked through Expedia, we have found a problem with our beds in that the hotels have only allocated2 single beds for 2 adults AND 2 children (even though we have clearly stated this in the booking form). When we pointed this error out (and showed them our copy of the form), they said that their hotel didn't have a large sized room. We eventually sorted it out and the reception staff helped, however it took 40min and some negotiation on our part to settle on a compromise. The compromise was a king size bed (to sleep the 2 girls and myself- Mum), whilst my husband slept on a duvet on the floor. This obviously wouldn't be acceptable nor suitable for some people (esp older travellers). We rightly refused to pay for a rollaway. As I mentioned earlier, this is the second time we had this bedding problem in China and both times we had booked through Expedia!
Aside from the bedding issues, the room was quite spacious (there would have been room for at least 1, maybe 2 rollaways), and bathroom enormous and well maintained! Huge bath (shower in the bath ) too.
We ate a buffet breakfast which was mostly empty- but fantastic food and service. We did not have this included in our room rate but it was well worth the 50yuan each!
We then caught a taxi to the bus station to catch our 5 hr bus to Dali (no air conditioning, no opening windows, nasty, nasty trench style squat toilets along the way). -
Well located and generally adequate
Feinschmecker12014
Portmahomack, United Kingdom | Oct 2, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelBooking chaotic -- hotel could find no trace of my booking through an agency. Same story was true of other members of the family -- fluent speakers of Chinese -- who had booked through a Chinese agency.
Foyer most impressive -- 3 storeys high and with a chandelier which must have been about 20' in height and much the same in diameter.
My room was in building B (or 2 -- they're the same to Chinese thought) and was very adequate apart from a paucity of electric sockets. Fresh fruit provided and fresh yoghurts placed in the room every day.
Self-rated as 4-star, but better to expect a large 3-star hotel.
My room had internet access but only the standard range limited by government blocking. The room occupied by other members of my family had VPN access to the wider world.
Eating in the revolving restaurant on the 23rd floor of the other building brought one face to face with Chinglish in the lift which instructed one to "Take another elevator to the revolving restaurant on the 20th floor". If one didn't know that the revolving restaurant was on the 23rd floor, one might not realise that what was meant was "On the 20th floor take another elevator to the revolving restaurant." Food in that restaurant was good and the buffet breakfast for about £5 was good value for money.
The most organised people on the staff were the doormen -- very impressive.
If they could just get their administrative chaos sorted out, this hotel could be recommended a lot more confidently.
It has the great advantage of being central, very near the main rail station and within easy reach of the most impressive metro system. It is also readily identifiable because of the distinctiave shape of the revolving restaurant atop building A. -

Melbourne, Australia | Sep 28, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesGreat impression of hotel when we first walked in, but when we got to our room it was very tired, overlooked a very "ugly" almost industrial area and our double room had twin beds. Went back to reception and after voicing our concerns they moved us to a lovely room on a higher floor on the opposite side of the hotel. Much better view and nicer ambiance all round. What a difference! Great location for accessing the main tourist sights and attractions - Stone Forest, Green Lake and the Bird and Flower Market. Food at the hotel was very average and lots of confusion when checking out and settling of account. Luckily we had someone with us that could speak Chinese.

Comfortable and well priced

Melbourne, Australia | Sep 14, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesHotel well located, room was large and comfortable, staff were friendly even though English was poor. There was one staff member who could always help us in English and helpful.
I had a lot of clothes for washing, all clothes came back beautifully cleaned and pressed, and the price was the cheapest I've ever paid in China.
Breakfasts had a lot of variety too.
