Designed for Tranquility
TheWanderlustAdvisor
New York City, New York | Aug 11, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyA local art professor recommended this hotel / resort to us. Recently renovated, the design and décor of this hotel / resort is amazing. The detail of the furniture which encompass Chinese accents and the design of the courtyard, which is similar to resorts in southern European countries, bring together a wholly tranquil experience. Right across the street is a tea plantation, where you can see tea farmers picking tea leaves in the morning mist. The breakfast dim sum is also delicious. It is within walking distance from West Lake, the main tourist destination, along well-manicured pedestrian pathways, which we took advantage of. To experience a resort at this level in China is pretty amazing. Also the cost of the stay was decidedly more affordable than some European resorts would have charged.

Great hotel for design-lovers

Shanghai, China | Dec 3, 2025 | Trip type: Couples+ enjoyed extremely fast and easy check-in procedure
+ got an upgrade to junior suite, very appreciated!
+ package from Ctrip includes free Minibar, nice!
+ very quiet, good windows, floor heating made our stay very relaxing
+ elegant bathroom with free standing bath tub and rain shower
+ as we came off-season: didn't use the pool.
+ amazing roof terrace (bar off-season not in use)
+ great modern-chinese design
+ minimalistic landscape design, perfectly embedded in the surrounding tea plantations
+ walking distance to the famous temple area
+ front desk can always book taxi to explore the scenic area
- service more oriented to local/asian travelers
- local breakfast options good, not many western food options
- restaurant not up to overall hotel standard (some service issues, limited english, some dishes not available)
* Great hotel for design-lovers who want to escape the big city and enjoy the scenic area west of Hangzhou -
The hotel is sumptuous and inviting!

san diego | Nov 24, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesThis is a gorgeous, zen-filled hotel. It is true, however, that the staff's English speaking capabilities are VERY limited; which makes it challenging for us (Americans). Having said that, their efforts to please are nearly unrivaled. Lois, Cinderella, Rudy, Apple, Carl - these are just a few of the staff who did their utmost to provide great customer service.

NO ENGLISH speaking staff! And not English menu at restaurant.

Xiamen, China | Oct 1, 2025Great property, great location but NOT for any other than Chinese people.
It is unbelievable that a member of the "Small Luxury Hotels" seal has a property under its marquee with a restaurant that has no menu in English and no other than Chinese cuisine. Even with our limited understanding of Chinese and one member of the staff limited English it was a struggle to order a simple dinner and the next day lunch was the same experience.
We decided to relax about the whole thing and enjoy the scenery and schedule a visit to the SPA. To our surprise there was not a English services menu there either!! And no one in the entire property to translate.
We are a foreign family that has lived in China for years and are used to this type of shortcomings but this experience has surpassed them all!
If you do not READ and SPEAK Chinese, do yourself a favor, stay elsewhere. -
Great rooms but that's where it ends...

Sydney, Australia | Jan 3, 2026 | Trip type: FamilyThis hotel is very well maintained and the rooms are on par with top international resorts.
Unfortunately, everything else was extremely poor from the moment we checked in, having booked 3 rooms for a party of 7 (2, 2 and 3).
- Arrived at 4:00pm and 2 of our 3 rooms were not ready. Didn't get an apology but instead promised a suite upgrade; which subsequently did not happen.
- Room for 3 people had booked an extra bed and even received a confirmation call the day before. There was no bed in the room and front desk apparently had no record of the booking.
- Staff generally friendly but can't speak basic English.
- One of the two restaurants closed on New Years Day (really?), along with the pool and sky bar etc. (Winter)
- Cockroach nearly got onto my plate at the breakfast buffet.
- The water that came out of the bath tap was dark yellow (refer to photo). A singular experience. Did not attempt to guess what was in it but obviously did not take the bath and called front desk. Had to call back in the subsequent hours for updates.
