Value for money and conveniently located

Hangzhou, China | May 10, 2025 | Trip type: Solo travelLocated in Commercial St. in Xixi Wetland Park. A good affordable hotel for travelers who want to explore Wetland Park as well as for business. Hotel is situated in the heart of the Commercial Street walking distance to many local restaurants such as Grandma, Jura and some international restaurant such as La Predera and Mango Thai as well as the bar street. This hotel is highly recommended if you are not looking for luxury, just a clean and comfortable room.

Trying Too Hard

Timaru | Oct 20, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessDue to business commitment, I come to Hangzhou quite a bit these days. What I have learnt is this, you are better off staying at the fringe of Hangzhou rather than inside the City Centre as the traffic here is absolutely horrific. Thus, this is where this boutique hotel comes in. It's reasonably priced and that it's walking distance away from the wetland where there are less people in the evening & that there are greens and waters around me. The lowdown here is this: being away from the City Centre also meant that we are dependent upon the eateries that are available here. Almost all eateries here are catering for the high-end and you pay through the nose for atmosphere. You know so when you see all the vehicles parked around this area mostly comprise of German and British late model sedans and 4WDs. I would expect to have a tranquil night sleep but construction firms are laying piles into the ground late into the nights. In the daytime, you would see Chinese flight squadrons whizzing through the air every three minutes. Thankfully, they are not in Mac speed or else, I wouldn't have any respite at all from the noise. The hotel looks the part but what's letting it down is the maintenance. With its sharp pricing, it's understandable that it's constantly packed with people and thus, more wear & tear. The room is a mixture of blobs and funny angles. I'm not even surprised if the hotel interior is designed by a fresh graduate from architectural school: looks good but not functional at all. The LCD panel is placed right in the middle of the walkway inside the room and you would constantly have your elbow knocked against it. The shower room and the toilet is inside the blob and whenever you are using one of the wet areas, one party would be exposed?! For example, when you are taking a shower & as you close the door behind you, the toilet would be wide exposed to the room. In other words, you can't simply have one person using the toilet and another person using the shower room without exposing yourself to your guest!!! The basin is situated INSIDE the bedroom and it's next to the computer desk. It's placed VERY low for a tall person like me and the basin itself is already cracked in the middle. The study chair is wonky (broken) and the study light is placed on the floor due to lack of space on the desk. Everything in the room are all cheap knock-offs of the originals. The bed is comfortable though and it's a good comfortable environment to be in. NO Wi-Fi in the room due to solid walls. The hotel itself is VERY long and so, you would walk a long expanse of corridor before getting to your room. Yes, it does remind you that you are inside the airport terminal. Breakfast is generous in the morning but learning more towards Chinese food. Despite all my misgivings, I must remind myself that I'm paying for less than USD$40 per night and so, I should be thankful. For novelty's sake, yes, do come and stay here. There are better hotels nearby but be mindful that you are paying four or five times of what I'm paying here now. Commendable stay.

Excellent value for the money

Chicago, Illinois | May 12, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe Pros:
-It was $39/night that also includes breakfast. I did not expect a 4/5 star hotel for the money I paid and I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the room actually is. I
- The bed is excellent. It is extremely comfortable and comparable to a top brand hotel bed. The hotel is excellent for taking a good shower and have a good night sleep then you leave in the morning for all the activities in Hangzhou.
- Breakfast has a lot of choices but mostly Chinese style.
The Cons:
- The standard rooms are very cramped. If you are traveling with a family you would want to book a suite. I was the only person stayed in the room.
- I thought the cleanness could be improved a little but not untidy enough for me to not stay here though.
- The location might be slightly remote if you want to go to Xihu or other places in the center of t he city. It would take you 30 mins to go the city center even though on map it looks very close, but the traffic in hangzhou is disastrous. -
Comfortable, good value
TinaMac45
Springfield, OR | May 21, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayThe hotel is near the Xixi Wetland Park, a lovely area. We had a comfortable and clean suite. The other people we were with had pretty tight rooms. Breakfast was a typical Chinese breakfast, a little difficult for some in the group. Only one place nearby for lunch/dinner. Difficult to communicate with staff since we didn't speak Chinese.

Getting Worse

Timaru | Jun 2, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI stayed here in October last year and it's disappointing to note that the standard has since gone downhill or that it has never been improved. The construction in the evening continues to wreck havoc and this won't change for yet another few years. Meanwhile, shops in this district are still filling up and so, the environment is underwhelming in the evening. There are a lot of mosquitoes come summer months. To facilitate ventilation, the management chooses to open up windows and doors instead of switching on air-con. Voila, the place is infested with mosquitoes inside! I checked in the hotel with two other colleagues and all our door cards refused to work. When we came down the lobby, the front office lady admitted that the system hasn't been working and the housekeeping department is kept busy opening up doors for hotel guests?! Hotel room rates in China are exorbitant during holiday periods and despite that we have confirmed our rooms a month ago, the management said to us upon checking in that one of the rooms was no longer available because we failed to respond to three supposedly phone calls that we never received. This is a common Chinese tactic to make more money. I felt sorry for the Front Office staff because it's a thankless job and that, the management made a lot of dodgy calls that infuriated the guests. Guess who the guests showed the tantrum to? Whilst the Brook tried to portray itself as being modern, it has lost track of one crucial thing, regarding guests as humans and not treating us as dispensable numbers. By the way, the soap dispenser in the room has run out and yet, it's not been refilled. Also, the dirty towel was on the floor in the bathroom but it was not been spotted by the housekeeper. Sort yourself out, Brook!
