A unique Chinese hotel experience
SanFrancisco_Tourist
San Francisco | Dec 26, 2025 | Trip type: CouplesWe wanted a Chinese hotel experience and got it. We were the only Westerners in the hotel. The location was right in the middle of the park surrounding West Lake. Our room was actually a little cottage suite with large glassed in porch. The furniture sizes overwhelmed the rooms. Food was surprisingly very good and the staff, although no one spoke English, was very attentive. There is also a Shangri-la hotel in walking distance that has a couple very nice restaurants. One night here was great but three were a bit too long.

Cabins in the woods
panda1985
London, United Kingdom | Sep 22, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayI was going to give this place four stars but the wifi wasn't working and they couldn't be bothered to even try and fix it so unfortunately they get knocked down in my book.
Rooms are a modest size but the setting right in the middle of the forest is pretty cool. Place is very hard to find (even being with Chinese speakers) in the dark so be careful.
Breakfast was nice and I can recommend the local noodle soup option, but the dinner they gave us one evening was greasy and generally rather underwhelming.
Being right next to the lake is good but overall if I returned to Hangzhou I would probably try and stay somewhere with better facilities, but this place is certainly not terrible. -
Chalets in the woods
Sune-DK
Shanghai, China | Mar 11, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThis is not your average 4-star hotel. Instead it is a number of chalets located in a quiet section of the west-lake park.
The room
=======
We had booked a suite and got Chalet 502, which is a small chalet with a nice bedroom and a small "living room", as well as a big fully covered outdoor terrace with sofa's etc. This would have been excellent for summer, but in March it was still too cold to use. However, really nice to have if you are a group occupying more than one house. As a family, a suite is almost a must as the regular chalets are really small according to friends who have also stayed here.
Layout of the suite was a entrance through the fully covered terrace and then locking yourself into the entre / living room, which is connected to bedroom with a wash-room kinda in the middle. The bath and shower is to the left and bedroom to the right. It is not very big, but works out fine and decoration is very nice and well maintained. There is a Wifi router in the chalet along with nice TV if needed. However, the big attraction for us was the big-big window in the bedroom an the nice green area outside. We could even see the west-lake from several of the windows in the chalet.
It was kind of cold as we visited, and we find it worth noting that aircon heating worked fine, but even better - they had floor heating in the bed-room. That is unusual in China and made the cabin really comfortable.
I have a hard time imaginging we could have chosen a better hotel for our needs, even though Suite-chalet price was much higher than a standard room at the Hangzhou Shangri-La.
Visiting with Children:
=================
We had noticed there would be no facilities for children and had brought our own baby-bed. No problems setting this up, and the sofa in the suite-chalet was fine for a bigger child to sleep on. No problems from hotel side. They even offered to assist preparing sofa as bed.
Finding the hotel:
=============
The hotel is located between gate 3 and gate 4 on Yanggongdi Road, right opposite the Hangzhou Flower Nursery, which the taxi-driver knew - in Chinese / Pinyin: "Hangzhou Hua Pu".
We had no problems finding the place - if you wish to map it out Google Maps, search for "Sudi Chunxiao" - hotel is at same level but closer to the Yanggongdi road. If you have an iPhone wish iOS 6, search for above or "Hangzhou Lianyu Hotel".
Attractions
========
Apart from seeing the lake, the hotel is located excellent for attractions like the big temple or the tea museum - A short taxi-ride away to both...or even walking distance if you don't mind walking 3-4 km. Getting a taxi in the morning does not seem to be a problem, so we took taxi.
Dining
=====
We did not eat at the hotel, but brought own food for breakfast. Worth noting that there was no fridge in our chalet. Room-service could easily manage a cold beer in the evening, though, at very reasonable price.
Getting away from Hangzhou
=========================
As pointed out in another review getting a taxi on a Sunday afternoon is not easy. We did not manage but had to walk half-way to the station as we where there on the first day of Spring. Big mistake from our side - not a mistake by hotel. Ordering a private car the night before may be well worth the cost. -
Cabin by the West Lake
8audrey8_11
Manila, Philippines | Jan 2, 2026 | Trip type: CouplesThis is located within the West Lake area. It is a very beautiful place to stay in if you would want to enjoy walking around the lake. The cabins are small good for 2 persons but very clean. The bed is excellent. The view is really amazing. The staff are really helpful and they can speak English. The only downside is it may be difficult to find the hotel at night. The area is within the garden so it will be good to bring a flashlight if you will be going back to the hotel late at night. I will recommend this to first time travelers to Hangzhou. It is also a romantic getaway for couples. We stayed in this hotel during the autumn season. It was perfect! The locals say that its not good to stay near the lake area during summer because there are many mosquitoes.

Good for a quiet getaway
walkingheels
Indonesia | Oct 1, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyI stayed here recently with my husband and his family, no kids.
Getting there was not easy (there are no signs from the road, or even outside the premises), and couple a late night arrival with rain in Hangzhou, our first impression of the hotel was not pleasant.
Firstly, your taxi is not allowed to drive up to the hotel lobby, because the hotel is really just a collection of huts in a public park, where only pedestrians are allowed. So, your taxi has to stop you at one of the entrances of the park and you will have to walk in (only a 2 minute walk) to the hotel. You have to tell the taxi to stop you at the entrance opposite Hangzhou Flower Nursery on Yanggongdi Lu, and then walk in to the park.
Second, if you arrive late at night, there is no food. It is not really a 'hotel' per se. More like chalets in the park. So, don't expect full service - no food save for breakfast. But the staff are very helpful and they will help you with your luggage and call for cabs when needed.
Fast forward to the next morning, when thankfully, the rain had stopped. You will find that this place is much nicer when it is dry, and when there is light. The chalets are very clean, good bathroom, comfortable bed. However, they are very small, but it suited us as a couple.
The surroundings are very pretty - with tall trees right outside your door, and you can actually walk around the park to get to many spots on the West Lake. We walked from there to our Impressions of West Lake show, and it took us 15 minutes. It is a beautiful and pleasant walk. You will realise in the day time that the park is a pedestrian connector for the area so you don't need to walk along the main roads.
The breakfast is pretty good - try the local stuff like Hangzhou noodles or porridge. It is inexpensive and hearty.
I think as long as you have your expectations managed (eg, don't expect hotel service, and don't expect that it is in the center of action on the West Lake), this is quite a pleasant stay.
