Amazing hotel with great staff
RLandAdam
Seria | Oct 17, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe stayed a total of three nights and were made most welcome by ALL the staff we encountered. Hotel architecture amazing, a work of art, and its close to the metro too. When we returned for our final night, we were greeted with 'welcome back' as soon as were entered the building. We will definitely stay again the next time we visit this wonderful city

Most beautiful architecture

Aalter, Belgium | Oct 15, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessThe hotel has a very interesting architecture (the exit of every simgle room gives a view on the inner overwhelming inner shell. They have the most friendly staff.
It's a bit tricky to find the entrance of the hotel. You need to take the elevator to the 3rd floor. -
Beautiful hotel

Sep 30, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessI loved my stay here! Service was so good, rooms beautiful, food amazing and loved being connecting to a huge lovely outdoor mall. The problems I had with hotel was the lack of English speaking - concierge couldn't help us at all. The room had only 1 English speaking channel and it only pertained to China- no news. I know we were in China but we thought booking at the intercontinental they would be more English friendly. Also the workout room was so hot you could not workout there- no fans or thermostat . But if you don't workout and speak Chinese it is a fabous place!

Sep 24, 2025Great Hotel. Incredible architecture both inside and out. Ask for a room overlooking the river. Clean, spacious, unique hotel room. Staff was attentive and very capable. Will return here every time I visit Hangzhou. Special thanks to Aidan the breakfast manager...learned my name, greeted me every morning and went above and beyond to ensure my day started well.

Great rooms, poor fitness facilities
Benjamin N
Hangzhou, China | Sep 5, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayStayed here for three nights back in January 2015, despite the miserable weather outside the big golden ball was a nice relaxed environment with proper sized bedrooms!
Upon arrival received an upgrade to a slightly larger room and it was huge, very impressed with the size and scale of the amenities, deluxe rooms here have his and hers sinks, a large work space and a chaise longue. The lobby area and general atrium had an elegant and subdued feeling about them, with plush carpets and warm low lighting. I really could not fault the "hard product" in terms of accommodation and dining here at all. The breakfast was very good, with the extensive range of options one would expect from an Asian Intercontinental. I looked forward to this every morning, and I'm not usually a breakfast type.
Where this hotel surprised me somewhat was its fitness facilities. Now many Intercontinental's are famous for having out-of-the-ordinary and generally large fitness areas (take the property on Salisbury Road in Hong Kong, for example). Having read about a top-floor pool in a giant five star golden ball overlooking Hangzhou this was of course the first place me and my friend headed to after check in. We were greeted by a sign notifying us "the fitness area of this hotel is not managed by Intercontinental, and is being contracted to a local brand". My heart sank, I have lived in China for years and I know exactly what this would mean. Sure enough, the pool had zero atmosphere (most of the light bulbs in the ceiling didn't work), as well as this, when we arrived there was a very ominous brown stain just next to the pool, which a member of staff saw and ran to get a mop to get rid of it - what the stain was I never learned... Wonky signs, unpleasant temperature, and a bar which had more dust on it than my grandmothers television made this pool a total flop - disappointing.
I stayed here because I actually got a pretty reasonable rate, this hotel does not charge as much as other five star properties in the area and I believe that is partly due to its rather inconvenient location, it is at the end of the line on the subway and is nowhere near tourist attractions. It is a taxi or metro ride to get anywhere interesting as this hotel is in the middle of a business district which is still being built. For business travellers, hauling to and from work in private cars, this hotel would be absolutely ideal, but if you are trying to do some sightseeing, maybe somewhere more centrally located would be a better choice.
Many thanks to the staff here for making my stay very pleasant.
