Quiet and nice location , friendly service
Taste C
Suzhou, China | Sep 14, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyThe hotel is located away from the mainstream tourism industry which is really nice. Good nature views, some hiking trails nearby make it a splendid stay. Hotel offers 5 star comfort and has a own beautiful style. Very friendly staff. I have anyhow to deduct a star for the food and beverage. The offer at breakfast and dinner buffet is just okay, but not acceptable for a intercontinental! You (dear hotel) should work on it.

Disappointed with Intercon
Lotusyll
Shanghai, China | Jul 18, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe came with our 3 year old son on Friday and are checking out tomorrow Sunday.
A lot to say here so I'll just try to list it all.
Hotel
Great location, very scenic and makes you forget you are in China. Need to get a room with the lake view. We got a suite of 145 sq m facing the lake in the main building, and at the end of the corridor, 5th for where the exec lounge is. Main aim was to have lounge access for breakfast, tea and happy hour. Boy were we disappointed.
Hotel and room are very well decorated and designed. Quality fixtures too. But hotel and room showing dampness on the walls, fabric covered panels and carpet. Area above air con vent in room also showing mould - something which would have required everyone to be evacuated in Germany (my husband is German)
Gym & Spa area
Located in the basement of another building. A series mahjong rooms were located along side there. Whole area has a weird off-putting mixture of smells - mustiness, dampness, cigarette smells from the mahjong rooms and a strange Chinese herb smell since the spa is based on traditional Chinese medicine. It's strange and not a place I want to go work out. Gym is dark, small and very uninspiring.
Pool
A lot different pools here so you can definitely find a space that is away from the noisy locals and screaming kids. No our boy is not screamy, and more entertaining himself, as we have taught him to speak with a small voice in public spaces. No need to shout to be heard.
F&B
The entire F&B is a joke here. This is suppose to be a 5 or 6 star hotel, and it's the Intercon. I have my expectations but this is more like a the F&B of a Chinese 3 star hotel.
Exec lounge F&B
Tea time is from 3-5pm. Pathetic spread of cookies, 2-3 different types of sliced cakes on cupcake paper, some gummy bears for kids, and some standard fruits. No problem if this is a local hotel like Jinjiang but not if you are Intercon! Selection and presentation is appalling.
Dinner
There is no fine dining restaurant here. I guess with guest make-up of 99.9% Chinese, the hotel might think there is no need for fine dining. There is only a Chinese restaurant, the hotel cafe where breakfast and buffets are served and the like lobby lounge.
We went to the cafe for dinner since there is no fine dining (disappointed as we brought proper clothing for a fine dining restaurant) and settled for the buffet at 216 rmb per pax. Food was horrendous. Beef and lamb were dry and tasteless. The Asian selection was more Chinese than Asian( I'm Singaporean). Desserts were better but I saw the same stuff from tea in the dinner selection. Presentation was really bad. Lighting was off, a few places had lights turned off. Placing of good was strange. Why were cut fruits placed together with the seafood? And where are the salads? No proper selection of breads?
There is sign on the buffet asking guests not to waste food. Well if you want us to do that, please make tasty food! Without wanting to waste food, I had to force myself to chew down the dry meats and bad tasting tofu dish. Only saving grace? The fish soup and chocolate mousse.
Happy hour
It's from 7-8.30pm. Huh? Isn't happy hour from 5-7pm? What happened? Saw the same stuff from dinner buffet. Really? Seriously? What about proper canapés? Can't you provide better selections like Parma ham with melon, different cheeses (and present them well) and good selection of Cantonese dim sum?
Breakfast
Another joke. I expected a good selection of breads, cold cuts, house-made yogurts, cereals, jams, etc. instead, we were given manufactured yogurt from local brands like Yili and some date-flavored yogurt. If we want that, we could have stayed in Shanghai and gotten them from the supermarket ourselves. At least, provide Danone yogurt. Was that too difficult?
No butter. Only honey in manufactured capsules. I've seen better honey provided and presented from a honey comb. No other jams? Everything is poor and does not look like it's from Intercon at all.
Again, really poor presentation. Maybe someone should go to Indigo or W to look at how hey present their food, even Le Meridien Chongqing does a much better job.
Activities
Went to do a 30min karting session around the area. Was directed to an area about 10 mins walk from the hotel. Greeted by a bunch of young men in army fatigues asking us to sign an indemnity form in Chinese, and to sign an empty order chit. I asked for something in English (none available) and asked he fill up the chit before getting me sign. At least put in the cost right? And these guys talk to us with a cocky attitude like they are above us. Just some young punks in camo pants and fake Ray Bans. Did not look like they are a part of the hotel. More like the service was sub-contracted out.
Service
Staff are warm and welcoming, but only in Chinese. With the proximity to Shanghai and Hangzhou, I thought it might be easier to attract a few talent who speak good English.
Guest makeup
Look, it's mainly locals. So be prepared for loud talking, overpampered kids running and shouting boisterously, and bad table manners all round.
We are here to spend a weekend and are perfectly happy to stay in the hotel and spend in the hotel. We want to stay well, sleep well AND EAT WELL! Give proper F&B for god's sake! We are feeling so dreary about every forthcoming meal (and there is nothing in the main town except lots of Chinese restaurants that promote local fish, had one lunch, not exciting). If the hotel owner hired IHG to run this as an Intercon, please do so! It looks like the Jinjiang group is running this hotel. Even the local Wanda group foes a better job. So not worth the 3500 rmb room night. -
Excellent hotel & location
Abramis
Hangzhou, China | Jul 10, 2025 | Trip type: FamilyWe stayed here couple of nights in their Club Suite (size is 145m2). In euro terms we paid approx. 480 per night. This was my 3rd trip to Qiandao lake.
View from lobby is very pretty. When we arrived there was nobody helping us with the luggage. Perhaps this was partly related to it that we drove directly in their garage.
Check-in. We arrived before midday and room was not ready as expected. We were directed to 5th floor club lounge where we could enjoy free drinks and small snacks. Their espresso was good (Jura machine). As we had plenty of time and there was no food in club lounge, we decided to have a lunch in a nearby Chinese restaurant. After small break we changed our clothes in the locker room and went to swimming pool. We got to our room at 3pm.
It took for me 4 hours and 30 minute to drive here from Shanghai (an hour more to get back on a rainy day and I drive as fast as we are allowed/able to do). In perfect traffic 4 hours is doable. It takes 2 hours from Hangzhou. There were lot of very nasty accidents between Hangzhou and Qiandao lake.
Club lounge on 5th floor has nice lake view and outside seating area. They have free snacks from 3 to 5pm. Selection is not so exciting being honest. Muffins were tasty. They don't offer any soft drinks. Just juice, coffee, tea and water is available. In the evening they offer free booze until 8:30pm.
Room:
Living room is basically fully ok. We thought it looked bit too basic. They use lot of wood, which gives the room sort of "back to basics look". Overall ok. Size is good. Having two toilets is practical.
Bedroom is ok. Bed is very good and they offer good selection of different pillow options (8 different must be enough for anybody).
Round bath is huge. Both TVs are good and channel selection is ok for westerners (CNN, HBO, Fox Sports etc.). Aircon is bit noisy.
Swimming pools:
Their kids pool is big enough. Adults pool could be bit bigger really. Life guards do their job properly. Inside swimming pool is adequate.
Beach: There is a rocky beach at lighthouse maybe 400-500 meters away from the hotel. Unfortunately swimming is prohibited. Come on let us to swim in this pretty lake.
Drinks and fruits were free in our room for the first daily set (beer, soft drinks, juice, water and red wine). Chilean cabernet sauvignon was acceptable. Their red merlot is not ok. I wonder why they don't stock any white wine?
There are 2 balconies, one in the bedroom and the other one in living room. It is nice to read a book and enjoy the lake view.
Lake view is awesome. Could not be better. We had asked for a good suite and what we got was really very much ok.
Breakfast:
Club lounge was full when we got there at 9:10am. No seats. Same situation on ground floor breakfast room. We did get a table in lounge, which was not ideal for breakfast but it was better than nothing. Not great. Selection on club lounge was limited for a westerner. Getting our espressos took very long time. Service should be faster in five star hotels. Food quality was ok. Omelette, croissants, pancakes, muffins, sausages etc. Their juices were freshly made and tasty. I would prefer having bottled bubbly water like Perrier in breakfast, but they don't have any. Ground floor breakfast room has a good selection of quality food, but it is really messy there. Also bit too dark in my opinion. Sitting outside makes sense, if you have your breakfast in downstairs.
Other guests: 95% locals and very few westerners. Lot of young kids so it can be noisy at times. Many guests were from Hangzhou and Shanghai. I was surprised that smoking didn't bother us at all.
There is a independent Restaurant Xian Shan within short walking distance. Food is fully ok and prices are fair. Their small fish sticks were tasty. We had one lunch and dinner there. Menu is not very wide, but this is a good option if you want to eat cheaper Chinese food outside IC. Chinese food at hotel is really pricey.
Hotel area:
IC has a large private area which is truly green. They grow organic vegetables and fruits. It is possible to use bikes or buggies for driving in their area. There is a nice road going at nearby hills. It is good for walking or jogging and offers some nice views. Hotel is secluded, which is great.
I could come to this hotel again. It is likely the best hotel at Qiandao lake. Previous time I stayed in Hilton (which is location wise much inferior). Room is showing some signs of tear and wear. From Hangzhou it is possible to come here for just 1 night. If you drive from Shanghai I would recommend minimum 2 nights. I think hotel is ideal for 3-4 nights stay. Personnel were friendly and at times I almost forgot I was still in Zhejiang, China. This is a relaxing place. I would say good 4.5 star hotel. Try it. -
Very exclusive and great ambience

Singapore | May 20, 2025 | Trip type: BusinessStayed 3 nights at the Executive Suite in May 2015 during a business trip. The hotel is located at the end of the peninsula, so, very exclusive.
The hotel ground is sprawling and our room is huge, facing the lake - wonderful view! Great experience walking around the hotel, with wonderful view of the lake and landscaping.
The buffet breakfast at the restaurant has great spread. Pleasantly surprised that the pastry is of very good European standard, unlike most other hotels in China. As this hotel caters to mainly families from nearby cities like Hangzhou and Shanghai, breakfast crowd can be rowdy and packed. Effectively, the service level can be affected due to the crowd.
The service level at the club floor is more pleasant, though the breakfast spread is less and its open during weekends only. Our waitress Ms Even was very helpful and forthcoming with our requests.
We had a wonderful dinner at the Chinese restaurant too. The famous fish-head dish and the free ranging chicken soup were fantastic. The restaurant manager Jim was really helpful and knowledgeable of the cuisine in the restaurant.
To be picky, the room cleanliness is not up to par with other IC hotels I stayed. Also, there's room for improvement for the service staff to bring the hotel to international standard, not just catering to the local communities.
Overall, its a great stay, worth the 5 hours travel from Shanghai Pudong airport. -
Just for a meal...totally worth the visit

Hong Kong | May 10, 2025 | Trip type: Friends getawayWe were staying in another hotel and heard about the InterContinental.
Looking for a different dining option than where we were staying, we ended up here at the bar over looking the pool for a drink and The Lake restaurant for dinner. The whole experience was excellent, good service (albeit a little slow), friendly staff and such a beautiful location.
Given the choice to visit this area again we would choose the InterContinental because of the stunning secluded location and service as you would expect from this brand.
