• Another good stay

  I have stayed here before. The hotel has had a bit of a makeover and is now a bit brighter and more modern. It is well located to be able to walk to the lake and the restaurants on the lake. There are also lots of great shopping centres nearby with much needed air con in the summer. Perhaps the downside is that there is no gym but the wifi is good. In the rooms on the higher floors, you get fruit every day. Also loads of movies on demand. Will certainly stay here again on my next trip.

• Air con or no air con?

  While the hotel is rated as 4 star, the air conditioning is only a token in the room. The maximum is only a feeble blow of air in air con mode and even that is stopped by at central control unit at mid night, leaving guests sweat in the stuffy air. I had to ask for an electric fan and used it with opened windows for the 3 nights there.
  The buffet breakfast is on par of the rating although still providing warm water and juices were not chilled. Hardly any air con in the restaurant and luckily it was not too hot and humid in the morning.
  Generally the Chinese do not like to use the air con system. When it is available it would be set at 25-27 degrees Cel. and minimum fan function. Most Chinese tourist hotels runs that way.
  The room is a very much dated, badly needs a re-facing.
  The hotel is at an excellent location within walking distance to the West Lake and CBD of Hangzhou. Many restaurants and shops are lining same street. There is a night market right behind the hotel. It is also near a airport bus stop.

  Great location, within walking distance to West Lake & to the city centre. Easy & cheap to get a taxi to all central locations. Tube station & bus stops are very close by, also. Convenient & advisable to travel by tube to the train stations.
  Very good variety of breakfast buffet including European continental style & popular Chinese style.
  All staff are polite although only few can speak English.
  Our family room is very spacious & comfortable. Clean & quiet rooms. Daily complimentary fruits & bottled water.
  Lots of good shops & restaurants around.
  Efficient front desk for check in & out.
  Good value for a short stay in this beautiful albeit polluted city.

  At arrival we spoke with a man with excellent English and really good service, the rest of the service after that moment weren't quite as good. But still better than most hotels in China. Clean rooms, had some problems with the first room and was no problem at all to change. The second room got wet when it rained outside so staff called us and change us really fast and smooth. Breakfast was ok if you are European, most of the supply was Chinese.. And we got a big problem with the hotels elevators. There were a lot of visitors during our stay and their was only two elevators so you had to wait for a really long time. We couldn't find the stairs either.. Otherwise, good location.

  This was a return visit to the hotel and we enjoyed our 2 nights here. The room was rather small but well appointed and spotless. We had a gorgeous view of the Lake from the bathroom plus a tiny outdoor terrace which was prettily landscaped and a real treat. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of dishes, The hotel location was perfect - we could walk wherever we wanted to go.
  More tourist help at the front desk would have been useful. Other front desk staff we have met on the trip were much more helpful than the staff at the Huachen.
